Sounds reasonable and balanced - for a one year extension.

It’ll never happen.

If they slashed it by 50% through attrition it might be a help.

No more hiring until the 50% figure is reached.

>> year by slashing the federal workforce by 10 percent

I’d like to see every single employee of the EPA slashed.

Preferably literally, but I’d settle for the figurative meaning if I have to. :-)

They’ve probably even labeled it “our first counteroffer”, as in “this is for our base”, we of course don’t expect or want you to actually accept it.

They had Oboma over a barrel on this one. I wouldn't have done anything. I'd make him take the hit, because all this was his idea. He got his tax increase, now let's see what HE'S going to do to cut spending.

Stupid party does it again. They bought it. Now they own it!

Nuts. The House has already passed a bill on how to handle the sequestration cuts. Why are they negotiating with themselves again? Let Obama come up his proposal.

What’s to negotiate??? Wasn’t sequestration the result of negotiation??? Let sequestration set in —

RE: a gradual reduction in the federal workforce

Why can’t sequestration achieve the same result?

Damn, I’m really thinking my move to (L) was misplaced...

Pray tell, how did the sequestration happen to begin with? Oh, yeah, when they couldn’t spend another the LAST time. So, not only did they retreat from the original issue, they’re retreating AGAIN from their own compromise? Wow, those ivy league school really know how to churn out the most smartest to rule...I mean lead us < do I need it?? >

Next you’ll know, they’ll be granting illegals Citizenship and....wait, what? Already done? My bad.

Good cop/Bad cop. They got their tax increase. They got the money. They got what they wanted.

The same thing will happen with immigration. They'll give amnesty with a "promise" to seal the boarder. They'll get what they want, Latino voters, and water down that little problem - the border thing - later.

Washington wants us to think there's opposing forces in Washington, because a "boogie man" is a great distraction. In the end, the politicians get richer and more powerful every time. The people get poorer and more oppressed by the day no matter which party is in charge. The democrats just work faster, so people think the republicans are "different."

Take Obomacare, for example. It's a tax. Tax bills must originate in the house. Obomacare came from the senate. Why didn't Republicans do something stop it?
They didn't want to.

The article states this proposal is likely headed nowhere.

Buck McKeon (R-CA), chairman of the House Armed Services Cmte, is pushing this in the HOR. A 20-year member of Congress trying to keep the status quo juiced.

The sequester is the only leverage the GOP has right now. Stupid party aside, they can’t go wobbly now.

Unless they specify that cuts must be in non-defense departments, this is a fools gambit. 0 will agree and start reducing the troops (rat wet-dream).

Both parties do not want to cut spending. Simple as that.

McKeon represents a a major factor in sequestration. The Reps and many Dems don't want to cut defense. Lots of jobs and constituents involved along with the degradation of our defense capabilities.

I fear that the Reps will cave to some increased revenue (read taxes) to protect DOD. There will be some accounting gimmicks used as well to postpone any cuts to the out years. Neither party wants any real spending cuts. We are screwed.

That’s a given.

I’m waiting for ‘14 to roll around to watch SOME here spin on their eyebrows and the GOP to start (talking) veering Rightward.

The stupid party can only continue when the stupid electorate keep voting for the insanity....And I thought the Dem plantation was bad!

Both parties had to probem stealing more of our hard earned pay checks, though. They got what THEY wanted.

I think we’re singing from the same hymnal.

However, the only way I see the sequester getting axed is the same faction(s) joining forces from the Tax/Debt ceiling debacle.

The sequester goes away only if the GOP-E & the Dems ostracize the Tea Party House members.
