GLASTONBURY — A 61-year-old man with an "Impeach Obama" bumper sticker on his vehicle was arrested Friday after he used a baseball bat to bash the trunk of another motorist who had given him the finger, police said.
Paul V. Guaschino, of 1149 E. Middle Turnpike in Manchester, followed the motorist who "apparently did not like the bumper sticker and displayed his dislike by showing his middle finger to Guaschino," police said.

I wonder if the bird flipper will be less quick to randomly throw his finger up at people he does not know. You catch an angry person on a bad day and that finger may cost you your head.
Love the sticker. But a finger should not begat a baseball bat attack. A physical attack should cause the sticker owner to bring out the bats etc.
A return bird would have been acceptable and had that precipitated a physical attack, defending himself would be appropriate.
I wonder if all is being reported here?
Sounds like a ‘flip and run’ accident to me. The flipor should be hunted down and prosecuted.

I had a hunch this happened in a gun-free state. It’s not a good idea to be flipping the bird when you don’t know who might be carrying. An armed society is a polite society and all that...

If someone flips you the bird like this the correct response is to just laugh at them. Point and laugh. That ticks them off to no end and you win.
If someone that got flipped off was armed, and shot the flipper, I would say that the armed person wasn’t being polite at all.

In NJ, baseball bat laws are sort of like the gun laws.
Its unlawful to have a baseball bat in your car unless traveling to an organized game. I think the only exception to the rule is if the bat is a “collectable bat”.
Unfortunately in this state (Connecticut) if you needed a bat for every supporter of the Marxist-in-Chief you’d personally float Louisville Slugger for the decade. It’s no surprise that the leftists here are out in force and gloating, as there are far more Obama bumper stickers evident after the election.

This type of statement is what causes gun-fearing people to think concealed carry is a bad thing. I sincerely doubt any person who has been certified or licensed for CC would think about pulling his or her weapon in response to being flipped the bird. That is ludicrous. Now, the CC individual may be justified in drawing on a bat wielding jerk, if said jerk tried to use the bat on the CC person directly. The key principle - not drawing your weapon unless you intend to kill your target - holds always.

There is nothing in the attached article that indicates that the bumper sticker was even the cause of the flipping off, beyond bat wielders assumption. For all we know, bat wielder is a crappy driver who cut bird flipper off.

I had an idiot flip me a double bird in traffic recently. I just blew him a kiss and that stopped him. He cut me off and figured that I wouldn’t respond.
I chuckled over that all day.

I've also noticed seeing many more Obama (and even more laughable: Obama-Biden) bumper stickers on cars here in The People's Republik of Connecticut since the election.

Hey, I’m 61 and have an IMPEACH OBAMA sticker mounted on my truck bumper.
To date, I’ve not had anybody flip me the bird.
I doubt that the 9MM BEATS 9-1-1, EVERY TIME sticker on the other side of the bumper has anything to do with that, either.
I see I’m not alone in this approach.

I like your suggestion. I usually give them a big, enthusiastic “thumbs up” and I find that confuses the heck out of them.

I do. In the past insulting another man may have resulted in a broken nose, but with people so sue happy today over everything it’s just not safe to break noses anymore. But a bb bat to the trunk? Sure, it’ll result in the batter paying a fine and or doing community service, but people need to experience consequences for their actions. I wish it was still OK to punch people. Many deserve it.

As far as a baseball bat or firearm response to the finger, I have found it better to ask “is that your I.Q. or your number of friends?”
