Ubaldo was 26 and working as a cashier in a Los Angeles gas station when he learned that his status as an illegal immigrant was about to change. He had turned on a Spanish radio station as an announcer was shouting the news: Ronald Reagan was expected to sign a new amnesty bill into law. It was 1986.
I felt like I just won a million dollars or more, he said.
Ubaldo is just one of the six immigrants Yahoo News has interviewed for our series on Americans who gained green cards under Reagans 1986 law that legalized 2.7 million illegal immigrants. The mass legalization was commonly referred to as amnesty. These U.S. residents and citizens--including an elementary-school teacher, a struggling out-of-work truck driver and a pastry chefeither had crossed the U.S. border illegally, overstayed visas, or were brought to America by their parents as children.
As Congress begins whats sure to be a contentious debate over whether to legalize most of the nations unauthorized immigrants, many of the 2.7 million people legalized under conservative icon Reagans 1986 Immigration Reform and Control Act (IRCA) may feel a sense of déjà vu.

The story of Ubaldo brings tears to my eyes. That settles it. Open up the borders and give amnesty to every one who has a sob story. /s
Boo frigging hoo......the common element among some of these examples, and the TENS of millions of other illegals here now are to “bring even more people here - relatives”.
We didn’t need them then, we don’t need them now, and we wouldn’t need them in the future. Hard cold truth, but that’s a fact.
These six are only here because Reagan believed Congress would act to close our border. More than one honest American Republican has been fooled by unprincipled Democrats.
There is not anything or anybody in this country, in heaven or elsewhere that will EVER change my mind on the pros and cons of illegals. Even if they are made citizens, the only thing they’ll accomplish is to soak up citizen resources and benefits and likely deprive true citizens in some way.
That CommieTard Liz Goodwin always forgets the tens of thousands of illegal gang members, drunk drivers and welfare queens that grace our land.
Always a sniffer, though.
A fair assessment.
Tis the season for Illegal Alien Sob Stories.
Now that they are the majority in California, will we Americans be afforded an affirmative action set aside as a hated minority?
It would be small compensation for losing our country and being forced by our own government to bow down to a foreign and hostile invasion force.
But don't worry, we won't even get that.
