House Majority Leader Eric Cantor apparently wants his Republican colleagues to pursue a “government can be good” approach to their politics rather than focusing so much on the size and voracious spending appetite of Washington. …

Citing an unidentified congressional aide as its source, the (Wall Street) Journal said Cantor plans to touch on a host of existing policies and initiatives, from school choice to tax reform, to show how families nationwide would benefit more from Republican ideas rather than those offered by Democrats. …

Statists to the left of me, statists to the right...

We are really a 1-party country, huh, Cantor?

So can an enema. Both, government and an enema are uncomfortable, unpleasant but necessary.

“Can be good...” is too general.

Could you be more specific, Cantor? The fact is that pretty much all of you are in government because you cannot do anything else capable of providing you with a livable salary...and you have retaliated by making sure that this is true for a lot of other folks who are much better than you are.

You are a RINO, and as such, should join the dim bulb crats in shoving it up your smelly Obama.

I don’t go so far as to say it’s a necessary evil, though I do love that phrase. But government good? Not usually.

By the way, the programs mentioned in the excerpt, school choice and tax reform, depending upon what he means by the latter, are not examples of good government. They are less government. They are the absence of government where it used to be before.

No, not really, Rep. Cantor. Even if I allowed for the possibility of government to be “good”, the risks are simply too great to allow it, as history has repeatedly shown.

It sort of misses the point, IMHO. I think a majority probably recognizes that government is at best a necessary evil, but where I think he does have a point is that the endless harping on the need to cut government doesn’t really resonate that well. I wish they would just stick with cutting taxes as the unifying agenda, and let the Democrats sweat the need to balance the overall budget a little more.

Cantor voted against the deal with Obama last month but it looks like more political trickery.

By the way, Rubio cast a NO vote as well.

His political snake dancing as well.

OVER 90 PERCENT OF THE REPUBLICANS WE ELECT ARE PHONY BALONEY BUSINESS AS USUAL POLITICIANS.

A total housecleaning is needed next year starting with GOP primary challenges in over 90 percent of the offices we elect plus third party candidates ready to run if the RINO wins the primary.

WE CAN NEVER VOTE AGAIN FOR A BUSINESS AS USUAL RINO POLITICIAN.

Cantor, please go and read the Founders thoughts on government.

Their views are in line with Paine's words, "A necessary evil."

Fire can be good too, IF it is confined to the stove, Right now the HOUSE is on fire and we have fools telling us we should sit on the lawn and enjoy the warmth....

Cantor has his good moments, but he’s almost as bad as Boehner. Our principles tell us that we need a strong, limited government that serves a narrow set of purposes...and no more than those items. None of our leadership can speak to those principles from the heart...and that’s why we squandered 2012.

Our government is good when it secures the borders, kills savages who plot mass destruction, and imprisons criminals and crazies who refuse to respect the lives and property rights of others. Other than that: I don’t want any, thanks.

The only way government can be good is to get out of the way and be invisible until we need resources for defense against invaders.
