Edward I. Koch, the master showman of City Hall, who parlayed shrewd political instincts and plenty of chutzpah into three tumultuous terms as mayor of New York with all the tenacity, zest and combativeness that personified his city of golden dreams, died Friday morning at age 88.

Mr. Koch’s spokesman, George Arzt, said the former mayor died at 2 a.m. from congestive heart failure. He was being treated at New York-Presbyterian Columbia Hospital.

While mayor, the city sank lower and lower into disrepair and morality.

How many American Jews can squander opportunities to lead to the right side, but sink into the cesspool of leftist politics is mind boggling.

Some are saying that he was “a liberal with common sense”. How does that happen? He was a gun grabber and he wasn’t a gun grabber because he believed that would help the crime rate.

I didn’t always agree with him but he was a true New Yorker and the citizens responded to that.

Endorsed and voted for Obama twice. That’s what I’ll remember him for.

I agree. Let’s shelve the political critiques on the day he passed from this life. It’s not as if he were Pol Pot or Robert Mugabe or anything.

Interesting comment - I thought he was elected mayor, not social director. Despite your "astute" powers of observation (and bigotry), most see it otherwise: You sir, are full of krap.

How many American Jews can squander opportunities to lead to the right side,

Why he affiliated himself with the democratic party of abortions, homosexuality, and racism was always beyond me. I personally will not miss him.

Under Koch and Dinkins, graffiti, street corner panhandlers, and car-window washer bums increased terribly. It took Giuliani to clean it up.

uh.... what?...who?.... Oh (roll over in bed...) Uh... don’t wake me up for stupid crap anymore. I care more about a frog farting in the jungles of the Amazon than some old lib assuming room temperature. Yawn...

HEY!!!! I got something... Make congestive heart failure illegal and he wouldn’t have died. If you get CHF then you should be fined and maybe face federal prosecution. This is a crisis!!!! Why didn’t anybody think of that?
