The struggle between political forces in Egypt could lead to the collapse of the state, the countrys army chief said Tuesday.
In a posting to the armys Facebook page, General Abdel Fattah al-Sisi said political and economic issues now represented a real threat to security.
"The continuation of the struggle of the different political forces ... over the management of state affairs could lead to the collapse of the state," General Abdel Fattah al-Sisi said.
He added that the army would remain "the solid and the cohesive block" on which "the foundation of the state rests."
Al-Sisi, who is also defense minister, also said that the army had been deployed in cities along the Suez Canal primarily to protect the key global trade link.

Hey Urkel, yes you did that!
Wit the Muslim Brotherhood now in charge of Egypt, Collapse might be a good thing.
Might be a good thing. If the generals can take over and hopefully there are enough left from the old regime, maybe the can start purging the Bruthas.
Think in the end, Israel would prefer the generals to the Bruthas.
Collapse is not likely as it implies that the President steps down to end the violence and allow a new government to form. The President will NEVER do that. He will order people slaughtered if necessary to maintain power. (It should be interesting to see our president and press ignore that. They will.) The only path to collapse is if the President orders the slaughter and the army turns on him. Iran got around this by importing Palestinians who slaughtered the citizens with wild abandon. The Iranian regime was thus saved. Also, by this point the Egyptian army is likely deeply infiltrated by the Muslim Brotherhood.
The Muslim Brotherhood is out in the open now. Their neighbors know who they are.
One thing that could save Egypt: a campaign where individual Egyptians decide to assassinate the Islamists among them.

In Zoro the Gay Blade the Evil Alcalde says, I have always depended on other people bring nicer than me and I have NEVER been disappointed.
I suspect the Muslim Brotherhood could say the same.

Military leadership tends to cultivate a mindset based upon some level of reality. Political/religious leadership not so much. Of course it’s a fine line when a general is always risking sticking his head up like “whack a mole”. The exchange officer in my Air Command and Staff College mix was an Iranian Fighter Pilot when the Shah was in power. What do you think that got him?
John Batchelor noted last night that the military just stood by, not intervening when the Port Said rioters attacked the police. In addition, he pointed out that Morsi has now put in place more dictatorial powers than Mubarak ever did.
And aren’t we glad that our president - in yet another foreign relations coup - helped engineer the removal of Mubarak.
Well, what the heck, he wanted our only reliable ally in the region, Israel, surrounded by hostile and uncontrolled mobs governed by weak and incompetent, fundamentalist Moslem, would-be terrorists.
He’s certainly got his wish.

Look for the Egyptian millitary to step in, remove the MB leadership, and restore order in Egypt. Even conservative talkradio show host Mark Levin said he hopes the Egyptian armed forces remove the MB leadership.
