Boehner full of regret over 'fiscal-cliff' moves

Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) is sharing his regrets about his "fiscal-cliff" strategy, less than a month after the House bitterly swallowed a last-minute deal hatched in the Senate.

In a private speech to the Ripon Society on Tuesday, Boehner said that he should have taken a different course after the November election by immediately demanding that the Senate produce a bill to avert the worst parts of a combination of tax increases and spending cuts that were due to hit on Jan. 1.

Instead, Boehner delivered a formal speech at the Capitol on the day after President Obama won a second term, in which he offered a major Republican concession – new tax revenue as part of a broader fiscal deal.

“Looking back, what I should have done the day after the election was to make it clear the House has passed a bill to extend all of the current tax rates, the House has passed a bill to replace the sequester with cuts in mandatory spending, and the Senate ought to do its work,” Boehner said. “We’re ready, able and willing to work with the Senate as soon as they produce a bill. It should have been what I said. You know, again, hindsight is 20-20.”

He’s obviously PERFECT for the GOP.

And since the GOP left me, I left them, just as Reagan left the Dems, because they left HIM.

If you’re REALLY a conservative, I can’t see how you can remain in the GOP.

It’s just not good enough for me to be in the, “I know only I’m not a Democrap”-party.

Sorry.

My family name doesn’t have the “IT” sound that celebrity names must have, like Rock Hudson or Judy Garland, and I know of only one celebrity who refused to change her non-IT name and somehow succeeded at the age of 14, Helen Shapiro, so when the celebrity bell rings for me, and it won’t be long, you’ll see, I’ve chosen to be called... Cliff Fiscal. How ya like it?

He’s a liar known for letting bills get through that a majority of the GOP members don’t support. The Democrats couldn’t have a better friend. His “incompetence” is intentional and supported by the GOPe.

Like it or not, Boehner is the single most powerful representative of the center-right political interests.

To not be able to get budget-fiscal matters right the first time is a genuine discredit to him, and his reelection reflects the uncceptably low performance standards, and judgement of his colleagues.

Aside from micro-analysis of posiions, we need smarter people on our side.

He should have got it over with and moved on soon after the election. Dragging it out just made the GOP the crisis story for 6 weeks :
“Will Republicans blow up the economy to spite Obama?”

Ending with a big inter-party fight

Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) is sharing his regrets about his "fiscal-cliff" strategy

I understand where he is coming from because I share my regrets that this underachiever is still a member of Congress...
