Gun Owners Refuse to Register Under New York Law
New American ^ | Jan 25, 2013 | Alex Newman

After Democrats in New York rammed a sweeping assault on the right to keep and bear arms through the legislature that failed to exempt police officers from the draconian restrictions, gun owners and even some lawmakers are planning what has been dubbed potentially the largest act of civil disobedience in state history. According to news reports, gun rights activists are urging everyone to defy far-left Governor Andrew Cuomo’s new registration mandate while daring authorities to “come and take it.”

Analysts say the legislation, passed in a frenzy last week in the wake of the Newtown shooting, represents the most brazen infringement on the right to keep and bear arms anywhere in the nation. Among other points, the so-called SAFE Act seeks to limit magazines to just seven bullets, require virtually all of the estimated one million semi-automatic rifles in the state to be registered with authorities, mandate reporting of patients who express indications that they may have thoughts about hurting themselves or others by doctors, and more.

Aside from being unconstitutional, experts on gun violence also point out that the draconian schemes are a bad idea: Studies have repeatedly shown that more guns lead to less crime, and the phenomenon is obvious across America — just compare Chicago or D.C. to Alaska or Wyoming. The mandated reporting requirements for doctors, meanwhile, have come under fire from across the political spectrum. Whether it will even be possible to enforce the bill, however, remains to be seen.

Preparations are already being made for mass resistance. “I’ve heard from hundreds of people that they’re prepared to defy the law, and that number will be magnified by the thousands, by the tens of thousands, when the registration deadline comes,’’ said President Brian Olesen with American Shooters Supply,

A while back, I had posted much the same on another thread, and a couple folks were “Yeah, right...” sorta sarcastically.

So I did a websearch and got hits about a gun buy back program that was going on in San Diego, I think, where they were giving GROCERY VOUCHERS for guns, and they got totally mobbed.

I couldn’t post the article because of the restrictions here and got a little torked over that. I mean, we were talkin REAL NEWS and I was unable to post it.

Used to be once a year or so, if the weather was nice, I’d take my gun on the porch, sit in a chair with a cup of coffee and a smoke, and clean and polish it.

Not anymore.
Not ever.

passing such unconstitutional (and absurd) laws is just a misguided publicity stunt. it is obvious to everybody that any compliance will be under 5 percent, if even that high.

a tempest in a teapot... signifying nothing

"Spot on. In 1789 the deadliest military firearms were found incivilian hands from Maine to the NatchezTrace. In the 1860s and 1870s wagon trains and cattle drovers had more firepower than cavalry troops. Even artillery found its legal way into civilian hands on keel boats, in trading posts and private forts, and every Yankee and Baltimore trade on the seas."

Don't forget the "Letter of Marque", it is in the Constitution and still a valid law today. The essence of it is that a private citizen could equip and man the most terrible weapons system of the day, a ship of war, and take that vessel and use it under a Letter of Marque at the behest of Congress.

There was no limit on the technology that a private citizen could own or operate when our country was founded and up until the ban on automatic weapons was accidentally allowed to be put in place by the failure of a lawyer to turn up at a Supreme Court hearing.

That provision of the Constitution did not limit the caliber, range, number of rounds of ammunition, number of weapons that can be owned nor where the owner of them and the weapons delivery system could be used.

The mandatory registration of firearms is as much an infringement on the basic human rights protected in the Bill of Rights as mandatory government registration of printing equipment including computer printers would be. The correct moral answer is to refuse to register.

If called for jury duty in one of those cases, the correct moral answer (after responding as truthfully during jury questioning as Bill Clinton during testimony or Obama taking the Oath of Office) is jury nullification - A sanctioned doctrine of trial proceedings wherein members of a jury disregard either the evidence presented or the instructions of the judge in order to reach a verdict based upon their own consciences. It espouses the concept that jurors should be the judges of both law and fact. When you are backed into a corner by pure evil, it's time to fight dirty; the socialists have been doing exactly that for decades.

WOW my first post to the “Front Page News (News/Activism)”
Not sure how it got on the side, but IMHO it is a story that needs to be told. If they get the Guns in NY, they will come after all of our Guns. Here in Tennessee we say “MOLON LABE” and I am seeing that more and more are saying the same, come and get them if you can. We need to stop this gun grabing, this needs to be our “Line in the Sand”

No way, No How, will I give up my 2nd Andmendment rights.

“Boy, are you right about that! The town AND county in NY where I was born and raised were always Republican. This past election, both the town and county went for Obama. I was shocked and appalled!”

That may be more about voter fraud than anything else. I sure have seen and heard a lot of these type of comments.

If millions of friggin illegal aliens can decide to ignore the law and flaunt it in our faces while demanding that I give them food from my table, why not blow off this unconstitutional cr@p?

Bump!

To steal a term from the left. I suspect we will see many ‘undocumented’ gun owners.

"...Well, not all New York Staters are city boys...." YesSirReee!!! and I have not doubt about that! I guess some communists just need to learn the hard way. We down this way in Texas & Louisiana are watching this closely. I'm sure there are some real good guys up that way. Down here, they WILL have a fight on their hands of a proportion that they could not even dream of. We've had first-hand experience dealing with tyrants like this before. When it was finally over, it didn't end well for them. Photobucket

“...just compare Chicago or D.C. to Alaska or Wyoming...”

Hate to point out a non-sequiter in a cause with which I agree, but I have a duty. Chicago and DC are urban. They are cities. Alaska and Wyoming are sparsely populated states. Naturally you have less crime, because there are less people per square mile, regardless of the gun policy. I used to read New American, until these sorts of leaps in logic got on my nerves. I agree with them, but they are not an effective voice.

It will never get that far here in Texas,There will be a real war before that. Commies start asking children questions, and they will go home to no home. Besides, my kids are grown and have their own weapons. If the fools want war, let’em have it.

I live in this backwater of Red China.

Of course this is NOW. The registration is not due till January 15 of 2014. So some peoe will wait till the last minute.

I am seriously considering moving to a “constitutional” state by then.

Let’s hope so. Let’s hope those NY gunnies have brass cajones and show massive civil disobedience.

This is the line in the sand, right here, right now.

Good for them! After all....sooner or later....

Big Government (Obama Leftists) will make law-breaking criminals of us ALL....

even while letting the ‘real’ criminals off via their liberal revolving-door policies of parole and pardons.

We might as well ‘go for the gusto’.
