Reid Statement On Record Breaking Visitation To Las Vegas In 2012
Nevada Senator Harry Reid ^ | January 24, 2013 | Nevada Senator Harry Reid

Posted on 01/24/2013 2:53:20 PM PST by mdittmar

Washington, D.C.- Nevada Senator Harry Reid released the following statement on the recently-released record 2012 visitation numbers for Las Vegas. In the past year, Las Vegas had 39.7 million visitors, which beats the city’s previous visitation record from 2007 by 500,000 visitors:

“Nevada tourism is bouncing back stronger than ever,” said Reid. “This year’s record breaking visitation to Las Vegas indicates that that our state remains a premier attraction for global travelers and that we are moving in the right direction after being hit hard by the economic recession. While this is an encouraging day for Nevada’s tourism industry and the 370,000 jobs it supports in Southern Nevada, we must do all we can to maintain momentum. I look forward to continuing my work with the LVCVA and our resort industry to ensure Las Vegas remains the world’s undisputed must-see destination in America.”

Was that before the tourism bureau came out with ads making fun of straight people?

Hey Harry,

Many of those “new visitors” are over-taxed Californians changing their residency to tax free Nevada. The bonus is they are going to vote you’re arse out of the Senate when you come up for reelection!

A lot of people have found out LV is a great place to fly into and out of for anywhere in the area.

Flights are cheap and car rentals are very good.

When we go back west we fly boston to vegas, spend first night in a very ood room downtown (about 40 bucks) big breakfast, and hit the trader joe’s and whole foods, and hit the road.

5 hours to the grand canyon (my old home). about 8 hours to salt lake. There’s also tons of good golf in places like mesquite and cedar city.

We come back to vegas, get a room to nap in before catching a red-eye back.

I’d like to see the actual data on that because I live here and I don’t believe that statement. We’ve had record foreclosures and unemployment here. My husband and I have repeatedly marveled at how “dead” the walkways on The Strip have been, how lacking the crowds are. I can only guess he must be including people passing though on the interstate system or flying over as “visitors.”

I heard on the radio this AM that gaming revenues were down over a billion dollars compared to 2011.

I'm out here in NW Vegas and there are two full size neighborhood shopping centers that are all but vacant, only a couple of small businesses still open.

They have been sitting that way for about 5 years now.

One was a Von's, the other was an Albertson's.....recovery my arse.

I lived in Vegas around 2000. The last time I was there not so long ago, many of my old haunts were empty/closed and FR had an article posted a couple weeks back where my formerly middle class suburban ‘hood is now a real one with 4 people shot across the street from my old house.

Here on the AZ side, we have a fraction of the traffic from the old days that is Vegas bound and have closed many businesses because of it.

Reid, is playing with some ‘malleable’ numbers. Or most likely making them up completely.

Howdy former neighbor ;) I was on Rainbow and Buffalo. Used to be a nice place.

The east side seems to be ‘enjoying a boom in available properties’ as well.

Yes, over 1 billion in losses and Mr. “You can’t go take a trip to Las Vegas or go down to the Super Bowl on the taxpayer’s dime” is coming back to Las Vegas yet again sometime next week. I want my dimes back.

Ha....just up the street. I'm on Smoke Ranch and Jones.

Still not too bad here though it is declining.

I saw that you were a pilot on your home page so I thought I would bring this up to you.

The flight pattern from Mc Carran brings jet out over my house.

When Bush was here I would watch on live TV as he as taking off then run out side and I could see his assent out of Mc Carran. As he would circle around to head East and fly over my house he was still low enough to see AF1 remarkably clear, I'd guess about 2,500 ft. It really was a thrill to see.

Now when obama takes off out of here, by the time he gets circled around and over my house, he is so high you can't hardly make out the plane.

I wonder what he's afraid of...hehe.

There may have been more visitors but I doubt the revenues reflect the census increase.

Well they never have to worry about my attendance ever again. I remember when my parents would occasionally go to see a show, that was back in the day when they had real entertainers and the ticket price was held down. My wife stopped going when the shows we might want to see stopped being booked and ticket prices skyrocketed. The kicker was seeing Penn and Tellers crappy show denigrating God And Country and having a bunch of wetbacks shoving pornographic ads and coupons for hookers/massage parlors in our faces! Vegas has nothing I need, If I really ever wanted to gamble I could just throw the cash back at the Indians here in California.
