Obama’s speech lauds government, dismisses opponents

President Barack Obama’s second inauguration speech promised a sharply ideological second term where the “the people” will use government to accomplish the tasks that he declared cannot be accomplished by individuals.

“No single person can train all the math and science teachers we’ll need to equip our children for the future, or build the roads and networks and research labs that will bring new jobs and businesses to our shores,” he declared in a 2,103-word speech that included numerous campaign-style jabs at his political opponents.

“Now, more than ever, we must do these things together, as one nation and one people,” said Obama, whose progressive ideology was highlighted in the short speech.

Obama repeatedly suggested that economic and social success is a matter of luck, not skill or diligence. “We do not believe that in this country, freedom is reserved for the lucky, or happiness for the few,” he claimed.

Obama extended that claim of individual helplessness to lay out his progressive vision of a society led by government experts — rather than independent individuals and non-government groups.

“Together, we determined that a modern economy requires railroads and highways to speed travel and commerce; schools and colleges to train our workers,” he declared shortly after reprising President Abraham Lincoln’s 1864 inauguration-day promise to win the Civil War regardless of the cost...

Lincoln's Second Inaugural wasn't until 1865 and his address contained no such promise. It did, however, say:

"With malice toward none, with charity for all, with firmness in the right as God gives us to see the right, let us strive on to finish the work we are in, to bind up the nation's wounds, to care for him who shall have borne the battle and for his widow and his orphan, to do all which may achieve and cherish a just and lasting peace among ourselves and with all nations."

Further, if the author is comparing Baraq I to Lincoln, he might have also noted this passage from Lincoln's Second Inaugural Address:

"It may seem strange that any men should dare to ask a just God's assistance in wringing their bread from the sweat of other men's faces, but let us judge not, that we be not judged.

Barak I might do well to note those words. Though spoken in the context of slavery, the unfair redistribution of honest gains from one person to another seems to once again be in style.

Tactical = systematic planning of short range actions
to reach long term objectives

It only shows you the meaningless of political declarations. “The era of big government is over” proclaimed Bubba Clinton. Didn’t “over” mean over forever? Apparently not.

“The US Govt. Now almost 30% efficient!”

It is my firm and unwaverinng belief that the Private Sector could do what the US government does for 70% less money.

Well, we are not going to do these things together - other than by the actions of an increasingly coercive and confiscatory government. Obama’s worshipers will love it however - until the money runs out and then they will wonder what happened. Meanwhile, Obama will have stepped off the sinking ship to some loftlyinternational perch where he can look down on the flaming wreckage he has wrought.

A lot of it was just conventional blather that could have been produced by a computer program. He cribbed a few phrases from Lincoln for the benefit of future hagiographic historians wanting to harp on how much he is like Lincoln.

I had expected more blatant partisanship--maybe he had some of that but deleted it when he found out that George W. Bush would not be there. He played up to his base--minorities, women, gays. For white heterosexual males who aren't on the federal dole, his message was basically "you lost, I won."

It was sick to bring in a mention of the homosexual riot at the Stonewall bar on the birthday of Stonewall Jackson. That could have been accidental--Obama may not know who Stonewall Jackson was.

Obama’s agenda is DOA in the House. The Democratic Senate can pass all the bills they want. Which will end up in a political graveyard.

Which suits me just fine. Republicans should not make his job easier over the next four years.

Treat him exactly the same way he is treating us. Let’s see if he can dish it out and can take it.
