No place to hide: Defense Secretary Leon Panetta, pictured today in London, said there was 'no justification for the kidnapping and murder of innocent people' in Algeria and warned militants there was 'no place to hide'

Islamist militants have today offered to free two American hostages held captive at an Algerian gas field in exchange for the release of two renowned terrorists jailed in the United States.

The attempt to negotiate comes after a US citizen and up to 12 Britons, who were kidnapped with dozens of other foreign oil workers on Wednesday, were killed in a botched rescue mission by Algerian forces.

The outrageous offer is likely to fall flat in Washington as the Obama administration routinely refuses to give in to the demands of terrorists.

Algeria's state news service reported at around 11 a.m. EST that nearly 100 of the 132 foreign workers kidnapped had now been freed.

The service earlier reported that as many as 60 hostages remained unaccounted for as the bloody siege entered its third day. The new information, however, still meant the fate of over 30 foreign energy workers was unclear.

Yesterday's air raid, which was carried out by Algerian helicopters and special forces without the prior knowledge of the US government, was meant to wipe out the al-Qaeda-linked militants and free the dozens of foreigners from at least 10 countries who were being held, but instead left scores of people dead, injured or missing.

Agree to the swap.

Have the drones in place.

When the American hostages are safe, send the jihadis to their satanic moon demon for their eternal reward.

When has Obama ever refused to give in to terrorists? He's giving them billions in US military arms!

...unless they want to talk about trading our hostages for THE BLIND SHEIK. That would ‘soften’ the obama administration.

I think it’s a perfectly reasonable request.

I suggest we give them Barak Obama and Chuck Hagel.

It makes me wonder if the stories are true that this was the original intent of Benghazi (kidnap Stevens and exchange him for the blind sheik), only something went wrong...is this a second attempt? I’d say bomb them back to the Stone Age but they’re worse than that already.

Like you said, the correct phrase is bomb them "up" to the stone age.

Did they stipulate that the Blind Sheik had to be alive?

that would only work IF the order to shoot was given....and it won’t be.

these yobs have been trying to get the Blind Sheikh out for years. Anyone who can do it will be considered not only a hero but perhaps the next leader of the Caliphate.....terribly unwise to negotiate with terrorists

With all due respect, this mission begs for the sort of death and mayhem dealing practised by Fleet Marines.

I see Panetta is trying to resurrect Monty Python's WWII 'deadly joke' skit. I wonder how many of the terrorists have died laughing since he said that.
