I would agree with you to a point regarding the tone at FR lately. I will say, however, that it bothers me less that posters might insult a major public figure like Christie, who probably doesn’t even read the gripes directed against him here. I am more disturbed by people like the birthers, who routinely viciously attack those who disagree with their tripe, falsely accusing them of being “liberal trolls” and the like, and also by the lack of welcome I often see for new posters.

I am certainly among those who made fun of Governor Christie. And yes, I must confess that I did depart from my usual standards of civil debate.

Let me put it another way: As a conservative, I am offended by Christie’s remarks. I don’t necessarily agree with every position of the NRA. Nor am I a member. But Christie needs to decide whether he’s a Republican and a conservative, or a Democrat and a leftist.

When the NRA finally said something after Newtown, their proposal was to add armed guards in schools. There may have been other proposals they could make, but I hardly think they deserved the beating that they took from the media and others. Their ad was, in part, a response to that.

I have seen the ad, and it’s true. Obama’s kids attend a school with (I am told) 11 armed guards. Yet he and the other liberal elitists (some of whom sent their kids to that same school, or to other schools that also have armed guards) still seem to act as if the NRA is “insane” for proposing such a ridiculous idea.

I find nothing “reprehensive” about the NRA’s ad. On the contrary, I think it’s Mr. Christie who is deserving of that label.

Jeff...THAT was a most-thoughtful post. I could clearly see why you were making the points you made. Your post is a GREAT example of thoughtful debate. Thank you. (Doug)

You’re very welcome, Doug. Thanks for pushing me to do more than just satirize Mr. Christie.

“Why doesn’t this idiot just proclaim that he is a Democrat and get it over with.”

He will - when he announces for reelection as governor.
