MONTPELIER, Vt. - Vermont officials overseeing the state's transition to a single-payer health care system say providing health insurance to undocumented immigrants would not likely cost taxpayers much money.
Lawmakers asked the Green Mountain Care Board to examine the costs of coverage for people who are here illegally. But officials say it's difficult to nail down a price tag because there are no firm numbers of how many undocumented people live in Vermont. It's estimated to be between 1,500 and 3,000.
"But we did learn, I think, enough kind of useful facts about the demographics of the population and some rough ideas about the size of the population to be able to present some useful info to the Legislature," said Mike Donofrio of the Green Mountain Care Board.
A University of Vermont survey found undocumented workers use health services sparingly. More than half of respondents cited fear of immigration enforcement as the main reason for not seeking care, followed by language barriers and transportation. And the report found because most are young adult males who say they feel healthy, coverage costs would likely be low.
Lawmakers have not yet decided if they will cover undocumented people.

Are you kidding me! True dat ... it will cost the taxpayers of Vt. little, the Fed. will pick up the cost in the long run, thus we will all pay for it.
Vermont needs more democrats and free stuff for their voters.
It doesn’t seem to occur to them that if they give free healthcare to illegals, then illegals might come from other states—or other countries—to get that free healthcare.
So we could be talking about a lot more than a few thousand illegals presently in the state.
One thing we have going for us is the hostile climate - currently showing five below. Lots of the Somalis we got saddled with leave for nicer locales. Most of the locals aren’t aware yet what the cost will be for their ‘free’ health care - should be fun to watch when they find out.
This is so typical of how the libtards do math. They may have a relative handful of illegals in the state now and they may indeed mostly be young men doing the work which the local libtards are too lazy to do.
But that doesn't mean that you won't attract birds if you put out a bird feeder.

I’ll second that. Someone might want to take a look at the gazillion dollars it costs Parkland Hospital in Dallas every year just for the babies born to illegals.
