At least two burglars broke into a house in White Plains, New York, on Saturday and headed straight for the gun safe.
This address and the owner's name, registered on a permit for legally held firearms, had been published on the controversial gun map published by the Journal News on December 23.
The burglars couldn't open the safe and the property owner wasn't home. But this incident has led to speculation that the map is now being used by criminals for targeted gun theft.

What makes you think they are unintended consequences?
I recently upgraded my three gun safes and added some Master Lock hardened steel hasps and bump-proof keyed hidden shackle padlocks. They’ll have to get the combo and then deal with the other locks....
Actually, I’m home most of the time, anyway, I’d love to see someone break in here when I’m here....always ready for that...
Well, Shaazaaaam. No one never saw this coming!/sarc
From the article: “...this incident has led to speculation that the map is now being used by criminals for targeted gun theft.”
Gee, never saw THAT coming.

Exactly what I was going to say...
time to sue the paper for damages—emotional and otherwise.

Until a few get shot in the face for their efforts. Very short life span for those who choose or instigate an armed encounter.
I am actually quite surprised that they are choosing to go after the weapons rather than the defenseless households that they now know have no protection at all.
Unintended? Perhaps it was really a back door attempt to “disarm gun owners.”
Still, the temptation to set a trap is strong. Have your wife and her sister take the cars for the weekend, and sit in the dark, a la Jim Rockford, and wait for 'em to break in. "Ready right? Ready left? ..."
"Angel, what are you doing here? Be quiet!"
IF my name had been printed and MY home was broken into, I would be suing the newspaper as a co-consporitor in the crime.
Someone should post the addresses of all the employees’ of the paper and say “These people do not own guns”.
