A friend of mine who is a teacher in California did not join the union, however she still must pay the same amount to a charity of her choice as long as the charity is from a union approved list. (Yes, they are all leftist charities.)
I loath unions.

Two wrongs don’t make a right. The logical response would be to repeal the requirement for the union to represent non-members.

This seems similar to scams where they send you something you don’t want, didn’t ask for and can’t get out of, and then they ding your credit card each month for the magazine subscription, book, or whatever it is. I wonder when they will come up with the idea of making home schoolers pay into them as well somehow. All they think about is money.

This is not about "fair share" or "benefits": this is about coercively forcing teachers to support an ideology and propaganda program which they reject individually and, under our Constitution, should be free to refuse to underwrite.

It’s Maryland, Democrats rule.
We are trying hard to change it , but there are too many Obama voters in the critical counties. Montgomery being one of them. It gets mighty dark in PG, Baltimore, Howard, and Baltimore Counties, with the shadow extending itself into Charles.

How about just making sure that unions don’t have to give benefits to non-union members instead, Sheila?
