As Congress prepares to debate new bills aimed at curbing gun violence, many gun owners fear Washington regulations will actually limit their ability to stop crime.
The best empirical research on the matter finds that, where gun ownership levels are highest, in fact, homicide rates are far lower, said University of Texas at Dallas criminologist Tomislav Kovandzic.
Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., proposes banning military-style assault weapons, though more than 5 million AK-47s and AR-15s are already in circulation, and the low-caliber rounds they fire are less deadly than those in many handguns.
Among state and federal prison inmates convicted of using a firearm, less than 2 percent used a military-style semiautomatic. The most popular crime guns, .38 revolvers and 9-mm. handguns, are not expected to be on lawmakers list of banned weapons.

Recall the booking photo email from the Chicago PD that went around a couple of years ago? (The cop that sent it was fired.) All the dozens of scumbags were wearing Obama t-shirts. Criminals are reliable Democrat votes. The Democrat section of our government does not want any of those voters inconvenienced or killed.
All heil Dear LEader!!!
They know there'll be some big problems pretty soon with the citizens of this country.
This is far beyond a conspiracy.
Gun control ia like trying to solve drunk driving by making it harder for sober people to own cars.
***though more than 5 million AK-47s and AR-15s are already in circulation,****
More AKs and ARs in public hands in thirty years than 30-30- Winchester lever actions in 110 years.
***and the low-caliber rounds they fire are less deadly than those in many handguns. ***
After the shootings at Stockton School yard, the news media tried to show how evil and deadly the AK was, so they shot a watermelon. It did not explode. They tried and tried, and the melons would not explode.
They then used a different firearm with a special bullet designed to blow apart and made the melon explode.
So, on the nightly news we saw an AK fired at a melon, then a cut to the exploding melon hit with a different round, and cries to ban them.
***The most popular crime guns, .38 revolvers and 9-mm. handguns, are not expected to be on lawmakers list of banned weapons. ***
Didn’t stop them from demanding bans on these weapons!
It has always been about handguns. Assault rifles are just a decoy to try and get their anti-gun foot in the door.
Once they get a ban on AWs then they will use the same reasons to go after handguns.
John Kennedy killed with a 5 shot bolt action rifle.
Medgar Evers, shot with a 5 shot 1917 bolt action Enfield rifle.
Martin Luther King, shot with a 4 shot Remington 760 pump action Gamemaster rifle.
Bobby Kennedy with a .22 Iver Johnson Cadet revolver.
George Wallace wounded with a 5 shot Charter Arms .38spl revolver.
Howard Johnsons shooter killed nine, wounded thirteen with a 4 shot RUGER .44 mag Deerslayer rifle.
Gerald Ford attacked with a 7 shot 1911 semi auto.
Edmond OK post office with two National Guard 7 shot 1911 pistols.
Ronald Reagan and Jim Brady with an RG-14 .22 revolver.
What do they all have in common? NONE over 7 rounds, yet after each one came a cry of panic to ban them.
We all know better, but there is a basis for that belief in exactly one historic firearm.
The earliest UZI submachineguns were quite inaccurate ~ Wiki says 50 meters was about it ~ and I've been told by folks who needed them and who fired those earliest weapons that it was more like 5 feet.
A gentlemen or lady in a tank or other track vehicle, or another gentlemen "clearing a trench" (as Wiki's counsel put it) probably preferred a higher rate of fire of moderately erratic bullets than ten thousand yard precision!
Odds are good that just about the only real on the ground warrior types many top end Democrat leaders have ever met were previously in the IDF. This would be particularly true of the New York contingent.
So, yeah, the one weapon with any familiarity at all to our enemy, kinda' sprays.
Just keep that in mind, and correct their misperception about every other firearm on the planet and that should disarm their arguments in their own minds.
Great shades of exploding gas tanks! You'd think they would learn about manufacturing "proof", but I guess you'd be wrong.
Fur shur the colleges they attended didn't have folks like Dr. Sutton, who'd been an OSS guy in WWII and who could invite Leon Uris to speak and he'd do that, and Cornelius Ryan, and others ~ this UZI thing was always a question because in those days it'd earned a good reputation as a close quarters firearm, and history had never before seen Jews with Machineguns so what's that all about.
One of the speakers said it was designed to be as easy as possible for untrained men, women and children to fire ~ and that's just an endorsement never to be forgotten.
For the children!
