Al Gore Is Richer Than Romney Thanks to Current TV Sale

Post-vice presidential life has been very good to Al Gore.

Thanks to the $500 million sale of his liberal news station Current TV to Al Jazeera this month, Gore now has a personal fortune of $300 million, Forbes magazine estimates. That puts him ahead of Republican presidential contender Mitt Romney, whose estimated $230 million left him vulnerable to charges that he was out of touch with the common man.

The financial publication ascribes Gore's wealth to a series of savvy investments that substantially multiplied the $2 million he listed as assets when he ran and lost the presidential race to George W. Bush in 2000.

From his reported 20 percent share of Current, Gore will receive a $100 million pre-tax payday. But that's not the only evidence of his golden touch. Forbes notes that Gore holds more than $35 million in stock and options through his work as a board member of Apple and could have received a hefty compensation package from his stint as a senior adviser on environmental issues to Google, which started before the search giant went public.

Also filling Gore's coffers was his work in financial services companies like Metropolitan West Financial and his position in Generation Investment Management, which he co-founded with former Goldman Sachs executive David Blood. That company handles some $7 billion in assets, Forbes reports.

Which goes to show that crime, stupidity and ignorance can make more money than intelligence, common sense and hard work.

It’s OK for the opressors to be wealthy- Reid, Pelosi, Kerry, Obama.

It’s totally wrong for the defenders to be wealthy, Romney, Murdoch, et al.

Thank you, Al Jazeera, for reminding why I voted for GWB.

I had forgotten the fights I got into at the time, but the hike down memory lane you and algore gave me brought back all the painful memories.

That election seems like a lifetime or two ago now, but algore hasn't let the time go to (his) waist and has gotten more evil by the day.

The schadenfreude I enjoyed from the Current TV employees' reaction to the deal done dirty unto them was quite savory.

money doesn't buy HAPPINESS....and Gore does not look like a happy person...

besides Romney has a beautiful wife, five son's and 18 grandchildren...

Gore had a loony wife he divorced, four kids, a son that has embarrassed him numerous times. and his daughters are loud mouth broads...so he don't have more than Romney in my estimation... but like another poster stated...WHO CARES...

In the 1992 election, Dan Quayle was the out of touch millionaire to the media, they didn’t report that when the finances were released by Bush, Clinton, Gore and Quayle, that Quayle was the only one who was not a millionaire of the 4.

All that remains is for Gore to apply for Russian citizenship to avoid paying exorbitant U.S. taxes.

Algore wouldn’t even consider selling to Beck...for idealogical reasons.

But he sold to Al ja anti- America in a new york minute.

He had to make a quick sale - to avoid the new Obama taxes.
