'A Scotsman who married in a kilt, supports Rangers, likes white pudding and drinks Irn-Bru is now being tipped as the possible ruler of Germany.
After climbing high and fast through the ranks of Germanys CDU conservative party, pundits speculate great things lie in store for 41-year-old David McAllister, who is up for re-election as governor in the state of Lower Saxony later this month.
The son of a German mother and a Scottish father from the tough Gorbals area of Glasgow, he is recognised as one of the leading figures in Germany's ruling Christian Democratic Union party.
He has a massive following in the wealthy state he leads - so much so that the rival Social Democrats seeking to oust him accuse his party machine of 'creating a Cuba-like cult of personality around him.'
Even so, they are unlikely to topple the man who within a decade is expected to lead Germany.
In 2008, he was appointed head of the CDU in Lower Saxony, the second most important and powerful regional post in the country. In 2010, he became the state governor - one of a number of mixed-nationality citizens changing the political landscape of the Fatherland.
Mr McAllister, who has dual British-German nationality, grew up in Berlin, where his father, James, was a British Army officer on attachment with the signals corps.
Before that he was a captain with the 51st Highland Division on active service in Germany during the Second World War.'

I remember a quote made by Disraeli. This is not exactly correct but as good as I can remember.
He said he had been to nearly every country on earth and every where he went he found Scotsmen. He said he also noticed they were at the head of the poll. I guess that meant they were leaders.
Or, if they led badly, their heads were on poles. :)
The old Scottish values is what kept the Western world doing so well, but those days are gone. Those old Scottish values are barely present in the Olde country.
Ich bin ein Brrroguiner
41-year-old David McAllister... son of a German mother and a Scottish father from the tough Gorbals area of Glasgow, he is recognised as one of the leading figures in Germany's ruling Christian Democratic Union party.
My Fathers youngest Brother Glen stayed in Germany after his army hitch was up. He married a German girl and started his own business. He was the same age as my Sister and had flaming red hair.
He died the same day my Father did. Daddy was 90 and basically died of old age. Glen died in a wreck on the autobahn. The German police think he suffered a heart attack before crashing.
1-—My family has German relatives by marriage (paternal). My dad’s cousin married a German, an ex-Luftwaffe pilot, and she has been in Germany since 1954.
2—Wow, sorry to hear that. The grief perhaps?.
Did you catch the article about the shooting outside Atlanta? Seems a person bent on ill-intent went into this house in the middle of the day (that’s how they do it here, figuring no one is home), but a lady was there with her two kids. She proceeded to hide the kids and then put 5 rounds into the gentleman. Unfortunately he lives, but the lady lives too, and her kids still have a mom.
He wouldn’t be the first Scotsman that went Deutch. There was the famous German army’s WWI “Deathshead” Division commanded by a Mackensen. He was the son of a Scotish diplomat (Miltiary attache) named MacKenzie assigned to the Austrian court who married up and had a son which became a leading general fighting against the Brits in WWI. He later became a Hitler supporter...
Don’t forget there’s allways much made of the German “blood” in the royals.
square sausage and irn-bru ... good stuff (tho maybe not together ;)
