‘National database’ on gun sales part of Obama anti-gun game plan
Seattle Gun Rights Examiner ^ | 5 January, 2013 | Dave Workman

Posted on 01/06/2013 11:51:07 AM PST by marktwain

The Washington Post is reporting that President Barack Obama is preparing to pull out all the stops in pushing his anti-gun agenda in what the newspaper calls “a far broader and more comprehensive approach” than the Clinton-era ban on semi-autos.

That ban expired in 2004 after a ten-year lifespan. Passage of the measure cost Democrats control of Congress in November 1994.

The moves will be sold as an effort to curb “gun violence,” but it appears there is much more in the president’s plan, including what the Post calls “measures backed by key law enforcement leaders that would require universal background checks for firearm buyers (and) track the movement and sale of weapons through a national database…”

“National database” just might sound like “national gun registration” to some firearms activists. The concept is almost certain to be toxic to the firearms community. Fear of impending gun restrictions has fueled a buying rush across the nation, and is reportedly swelling the ranks of gun rights organizations with thousands of new memberships.

This has proved a popular article. It is old, but good. It was written in 2000, but is valid today:

Gun Registration is Gun Confiscation

Wouldn’t the house have to pass this, too?

Could they not just vote it down?

Don’t think obozo is above just enacting it by dictatorial fiat - aka Executive Order. It’s game on then... I will not comply, I will defend the Constitution of the United States.

And new debit cards will be issued with more funding behind them for those that snitch on their gun owning neighbors.

Michelle will organize her Youth Corps to ferret out which homes have guns.

Shooting ranges will have extensive video recordings, any place that offers parts ammo and firearms will have Echelon tracking the purchases.

Doesn’t current legislation disallow the creation of such a database?

Just what Americans DON’T need. Another database loaded with their personal information for the hackers to hack.

Congress can kill an executive oder with a 2/3 vote. House can also deny any funding to set up any such system. I don’t think he will get away with it.

Why? I mean, what does this have to do with what sparked the idiotic overreaction? And what do they imagine will happen, aside from law abiding citizens creating more paperwork?

They are like a magic 8 ball with one answer floating inside. Whatdwe do about mass child shooting? “More power.” What about “hurricane” Sandy? “More power.” What about the “fiscal cliff”? “More power.” The debt ceiling? “More power.”

I was at my local gun shop yesterday. There was a line of three gentlemen ahead of me and another guy walking around the store. He never brought anything to the counter and seemed to be “hanging out.”
The reason he made me nervous is a friend was buying 10 round Ruger mags and I said I didn’t need any since I had 20s. His ears perked up like he was taking note of what I said, so I quickly added “pre-ban, of course.”
I will be more careful what I say around strangers from now on.
