This is a British ship which sunk in the English Channel.

You honestly telling me no Americans would have a problem with a UK company raising the wreck of a famous American ship which lay right off the coast of the United States and keeping most of the loot?. Yeah right.

Why not? The President has permitted China and Brazil drilling for oil off of U.S. Gulf Coast.

Your King George stole our best pine trees from Maine to be appropriated for his ship masts. What is the difference?

If Brits are so concerned about the damn ship, why didn’t they salvage it?

I wouldn't say that because I'm sure there's a ton of govt. lawyers just waiting for the British to find something..........But as for my personal opinion. if they find it, they should be able to keep it.....

There must be something worth salvaging from the wreck of the USS Arizona

Fair point. Did the UK have any role in authorizing the search, or does the wreck lay in international waters? I'm not sure how that works where the Channel is concerned.

Everyone should read the article.

1. A British charity is conducting the salvage pursuant to a plan approved by the British government.

2. The British charity hired a U.S. company to do the salvage. The arrangement is basically a contingency fee. If the company finds enough value, it makes a profit. If it finds nothing, it has lost millions. The Brits get cultural artifacts and what of the ship that can be salvaged.

3. I doubt there is a company in the UK that has this kind of highly specialized expertise.
