NOTE: if I am able to do ASK THE IMAM on a regular basis, I will. Perhaps it will give us some insight into our Muslim neighbors or provide fodder for mocking.
Q. Salaam Alaykum, In terms of "Islamic" jewelry, what is permitted to wear all the time and what is not? For example, Qur'an isn't allowed in bathrooms, so therefore I couldn't wear a necklace with Qur'an on it all the time, correct? What about Allah, or any other words in Arabic calligraphy? Thank you.
A. Bismillah, Jewelry and other ornaments are from "zina." Zina is anything that a person uses to decorate himself or herself.
It is Haram for a man to wear gold, even a little of it. The prophet Mohamed SAAS saw a man wearing a gold ring once. He took it off, threw it away and said that if a man was wearing a gold ring in this dunya, it was like wearing a piece of hell fire around his finger. The people watching suggested that the man pick up the ring and sell it or do something good with it, but the man replied that he didn't even want to touch it after what Rasullah SAAS had said.
For women, though, it is permissible to wear gold because women like to decorate themselves. However, if the purpose of the decoration is to seduce or tempt men, it becomes haram.
As for jewelry which has Qur'an or one of Alllah SWT's names on it, you cannot go inside the bathroom wearing it. However, if you are in a public place and are afraid of losing your jewelry by leaving them outside the bathroom, then you can have it inside with you (al daurat tubih al mahzorat) Walahualum
‘When can I wear Islamic jewelry?’
At your beheading.
I swear those questions all sound like they are from non-believers like us looking for a laugh.
I have a roll of that!!!!!
It is with great sadness, but to follow the words of The Prophet (Piss Be Upon Him!) that I will now remove my Gold Qur’anic nipple rings (with a Hadith engraved on each.)
I got them on sale at Sam’s Club for $49.95 a piece. I will sell them and buy rather a silver neckchain with an image of Mohammed embracing his pet goat (the goat that became his fourth wife.)
I should have known better than to wear gold that had been made into JEWelry.
Used to love reading a column by the same title from the Arab News in Saudi Arabia. Called it “Dear Abbydulah.”
My goat would look fettching with gold ear studs
and what the west calls a “tramp stamp” tattoo.
What do you think?
Would you know your special goat with out the ear studs
and tat? If so she must be a special goat indeed and
will appreciate the love and attention you lavish on her
Tats are clever identifing markings and should perhaps
be used on women too as a means of telling those who are
the chattel of a marriage but that is a thought for
the future. So this Imam says go for it!
I have a qoran in my bathroom. It makes my guest laugh when they see it laying on the cistern.
What should I do about waswasa in my Salat?
(btw - the answer sheds no light whatsoever on what the heck they’re talking about)
Send it back to the kitchen?
I only have one hand and I wipe my butt with it. Am I allowed to use that hand to fondle the koran?
Toilet paper? I think you’re right.
Excuse me Imam: How many terrorists does it take to screw in a light bulb?
