New U.S. Rep. Scott Perry went to Washington saying he wanted to hold the line on government spending, even when it wasn't popular.
On his second day in office, Perry proved he wasn't just talking. He voted against a $9.7 billion bill to pay flood insurance claims for the many home and business owners flooded out by Superstorm Sandy.
Perry was one of 67 House members to vote against the bill. When a broader relief measure failed to pass he House in the closing days the last session, Northeastern politicians on both sides of the aisle blasted the delay, most notably New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, a Republican.

The people of NJ, NY, and CT spend at the state and local levels like drunken sailors

In these ‘sensitive times’, allow me to take umbrage at the term ‘Drunken Sailors’.
Sailors, my self included, may be Drunken but never just waste money as pols seem to be want to do.
Why is it today ‘we’ are able to call Irish and Sailors derogatory names, yet we have pretty much stopped ‘picking on’ Polish, Italians and especially Middle Easterners.
So, as a (white...hmmm) Male, of Irish Descent and a (former) Sailor I wish people would cease and desist.
Thank You.
Thanks for posting the roll call...my RINO Rep voted for it :(
Please accept my humble apology. Liberals are far worse and the analogy gives drunken sailors a bad name. Sailors and others with the predilection to drink like myself (I am of Finnish ancestry) should never be used as a foil against liberals.
Want to start containing spending? Pass a law that bills can only contain items that pertain to the bill.
The first vote I have casted in ages I am happy with. McCotter was a Bushbot, and a Union Stooge.
The Empire and Gardens States push a lot of revenue and investments into PA. And that includes the good folks from Staten Island that you apparently believe are reckless.
OH yeah, that'd be SMART. ;-)
I tell you what. You keep your revenue and investments. If I could, I'd let NY and NJ split Philadelphia, Allegheny and Lackawanna Counties as long as the F'ing Liberals from NY and NJ stay out of the rest of PA.
You can't force charity, and that is exactly the reason I do not feel charitable to a bunch of lazy ass liberals that have their hands out for everything they can get. Take care of your own and do not burden my children.
Not once in my life has a liberal said "please" for my tax dollars. Not once in my life has a receiver of my hard earned tax dollars said, "Thank you." It is the opposite. Liberals accuse conservatives of horrible things which are simply the results of the liberals' own inaction. That is how they ask for help and there is no thanks. So why in the hell should I want to help NJ, NY and CT through my tax dollars when I can really help those people by learning how to be self sufficient by withholding my hard earned money?
You sir, didn't use the magic word, just like your union thugs that were turning away charity. Maybe you should post on DU.
They need to find over a trillion dollars to cut first, and then the people of NY, NJ, and CT could then take care of their own problems because it is NOT a problem the federal government needs to deal with because it is NOT in the US Constitution.
Thinking that the federal government solves all problems is exactly what has our nation in over $16 trillion in debt.
Remember that when South Florida has its next hurricane, because you know you will have one. I don't live there for that reason, so don't expect me and my children have to pay for it.
By the way, my father is retired in FL. He intentional chose to live in Lake County because there is less risk of hurricane damage. If he does need help, I will help him as best as I can. I do know that his hand will not be held out for a handout.
>> If I could, I’d let NY and NJ split Philadelphia,
LOL, no thanks — Philly is yours.

>> Why the hell couldn’t they find $9.7 billion to CUT somewhere else
Apparently, this bill was overloaded with pork. Just heard Trey Gowdy, another rep, and Scott McGrath from Staten Island speak to the excess on Hannity.
Those New Jersey Shore homes are owned by 1%'ers who rarely by the kind of insurance required because they think they own the House of Ill Repute in D.C. (CONgress)
The porker with the loud mouth has already soiled himself during the closing days of the campaign for POTUS and has irreparably stained his own credibility beyond comparison!!!
Because PA 19 is mostly Conservative, he had to usually vote that way on most legislation in order to keep his job. But, being first and foremost a loyal party guy with a lot of friends "across the aisle," he didn't like it, and openly complained about it to his constituents.
During the 2009 healthcare debacle, he actually told people that he wished that McCain had picked Joe Lieberman as his VP running mate rather than Palin. I heard him say this myself during that particular meeting, and after he had given her a rousing introduction at her October 26, 2008 Shippensburg rally.
I never had much use for him after that.
. . . what's left of it.
