Consensus amongst the people I know is that Boehner won because no one else wanted this job.
It will be a thankless, losing rear-guard action, with Obama and his media allies taking turns beating the snot out them for standing in the way of this Glorious Socialism the country voted for in November. Most likely that means Speaker Pelosi retakes her gavel 2 yrs. from today.
I think our best hope is that the Dems overreach on gun control. That always blows up in their face, and I think provides our very best chance to hang on to the House if they are stupid enough to persist.
If you are going to try to kill the king you have to be danged sure you DO kill the king.
Thanks for placing this on the sidebar...evidently what I checked when formulating the post didn’t place it there...
Unless I am mistaken sequestration sets in in two months if nothing is done.
Therefore the GOP should do nothing to raise the debt ceiling and just let sequestration set in.
Now if they want to raise the debt ceiling, then the price for that should be deeper cuts to government spending.
This should be a slam dunk — but watch them blow it.
It is what it is or what we have is what we’ve got. You have to work/live with that for the time being. That doesn’t mean you can’t try to change things even if only the smaller items. No one was willing to step forward and place their name into the mix and fight for major change thus as you say it was either Pelosi or Boehner.
14 members voted for someone not in nomination and one member voted present and there were 6 no votes. Five democrats didn’t vote for Pelosi and a total of ten republicans didn’t vote for Boehner.
I still can’t get over that Pelosi was a candidate. WTH? Maybe, it’s just me, but I’m sensing a pattern where the “opponent” is *so* outrageous that all one can say when it’s all over is “at least it wasn’t the other one”. Suuuuucks.
Ted Cruz, Jim DeMint and so many others are being constructive and doing what is possible to advance conservatism. State Houses are building up conservative strongholds. They’re smart, focused and determined to make a stand. They need our support. The point of your post is well taken. There are days I wonder, what is the “game” some are playing?
The Left is dug in deep; they’ve successfully exploded the number of Americans who live in a reality TV stupor; nicely tenderized in an Anti-American/anti-Capitalism/pro-Green nightmare sauce bottled by socialist academics and sold by the socialist media. They’re motivated by hate - misdirected envy - they’ve drunk the public school - media kool-aid - the perfect Obama, Pelosi, Reid electorate.
The balance of freedom is on the line. We need to recognize who is fighting back; who is working to bring this out into the open. We must push/elect people who have the same goals. Boehner is Exhibit A (he didn’t become Speaker by some fluke and he is powerful enough to keep his seat). But the handwriting is on the wall. Conservatives are building up their forces on the Hill and around the country. The specter of their growing numbers does more than what an unsuccessful vote to unseat Boehner would have accomplished (marginalized “fringe, tea party darlings” - as the media would assert and crow about).
Certainly those who never lack for something to find fault with, are not going to change their ways — they live for the grouse, the attack, the purity of their position - they are loud and in your face, nothing is ever good enough, coalitions are for the “weak” - etc, etc, etc. The glass is always empty and it’s time to chuck it.
Conservatism is on the march and the Left is determined to label it “angry, mean, selfish and shrinking” (in low information voters’ minds and those retiring on little, or out of work and worried - paint the GOP nonviable, a negative, out-of-touch group in total disarray). Cruz, DeMint and Rubio can articulate what conservatism represents and they will continue to build and rally the base. They’re building up what so many can only tear down.
