Proving once again that winners always rewrite history in the absence of proof to the contrary, while at the same time omitting the essential essence of the history they are altering...often it's not so much an issue of omitting opposing evidence as it is of manipulating it to give the appearance of being fair and objective - the prof who wanted to show that in fact Russia had helped win the war against Japan said something like "people think the US won that war after dropping two atomic bombs on Japan, but the day before the second bomb dropped, Russia announced it was entering the war against Japan. They couldn't fight two battles at once, and so surrendered" - QED all the fighting and dying the United States had done was really worthless without Russia coming into the fight.....

The prof who seemed determined to dismiss any evidence that returning Vietnam vets had been spit on, and by extension probably that many had been shamefully treated, asked her class of twenty year olds, two generations removed from the war, if they had ever talked to anyone who had personally been spit on during that era. "Isn't that interesting" she said when no one reaised a hand, the not so subtle implication being that maybe the stories were false or at least exaggerated. Doubtless she would have gotten a different result had she gone to some primary sources at a local VFW or American Legion post - but that would have spoiled what she was trying to prove with her "scholarship".....
