There was some morning “news” program on this morning in the background and of course I wasn’t paying enough attention, but they had a studio-tyoe doctor on talking about how it hadn’t been released whether Hillary had a clot in the leg or in the brain, but that she was on blood thinners. He went on to say that normally blood thinners are only used with leg ones and not for the brain kind. That there was only one type of blood clot in the brain where they would use blood thinners.
Again, I was on FR at the time, and not actively watching, only background listening... But based on that, I was a little surprised that they’re using a blood thinner...
I read an article about that. I believe that was CNN’s Dr. Sanjay Gupta.
I got the impression the clot isn’t inside the actual brain but just outside of it. Between the brain and the next level. Therefore I got the impression it was ok to use blood thinners for that, but wouldn’t be if it were inside the enclosed brain.
A related situation would be if somebody had a subdural hematoma...a brain injury enclosed inside of it, that was leaking blood. In that case you wouldn’t increase the bleeding by giving blood thinners. The only hope there is to drill holes into the brain and drain off the blood until the injury has a chance to begin healing.
When any such problem is enclosed in the brain and there is bleeding, the blood has nowhere to go and builds up in the brain, eventually leading to death unless properly treated as noted above.
