French Weekly to Publish Life of Mohammed Comics

Charlie Hebdo, the French weekly known for publishing satirical cartoons of the Prophet Mohammed and enraging much of the Muslim world, said Sunday that it plans to release a comic book biography of Islam’s founder that will be strictly educational.

The weekly often depicts Islam’s prophet using caricatures and parodies in an effort to defend free speech and defy the anger of Muslims who believe depicting Mohammed visually is sacrilegious.

The series, entitled "Muhammad's Life," will be “an Islamically authorized biography because it is being written by Muslim commentators,” said the weekly's publisher, known only as Charb.

“The only thing we are doing is transferring the text to images,” he said, adding that he doesn’t think that “higher Muslim minds could find anything inappropriate” with the content.

The biography will be published Wednesday and was put together by a Franco-Tunisian researcher known only as Zineb, Charb said, according to AFP.

On facebook, a poster calling himself "No Dog but Allah" posts cartoons like this, which I think would be very similar.

I think it would be funny to make Mohammed comics that would circulate on the Internet underground. Published (unauthorized) by the Democratic National Committee, DNC comics would be less charitable to Mohammed or Islam.

Various stories could begin with caricature narration from well known Democrats. For instance, Harry Reid could narrate the story of how Mohammed sodomized his first goat.

This will become a new cottage industry. Hitler will learn about it and yell at his commanders. Mad Magazine will run spoofs. Lots of Youtubers will contribute lots of crap. South Park will jump back over the shark to be interesting again. Free Republic will have its own topic for poking fun at Moohamed. The madder the Muslims get, the more they’ll be laughed at, especially after they kill a few people, appeal to the UN and Congress, and try to make screwy arguments about how their rights are being violated because everyone’s picking on them. Dissing Mohammed will be criminalized in some places, and civil disobedience will have a whole new flavor. It’s the only thing against which they have no chance of effectively responding. Relentless mirth at their expense, coming from every direction and no direction all at the same time.

“And pictures of Mohammed are absolutely forbidden. “

So how do they know it was Mohammed, if they’ve never seen a picture of him? “Picture? What picture? Oh, that? That’s a picture of a different crazed pseudo-prophet megalomaniac. That’s Larry-hammed. They’ve got a brother Curl-hammed, who died and was replaced by Shemfhammed, and later Curlyjohammed.”

Of course it’s going to piss the muskies off. Making pictures of the Big Muskie is out of bounds to them. Expect more firebombs.

Oh, I dunno. Hindus are no slouches in the mayhem department when the stars align. Vastly more tolerant than the Muslims though.

I’m not aware of any particular Buddhist propensity to riot. Setting oneself on fire is another matter ....

Then there were those samurais, Zen Buddhists, and the Ninjas were originally itinerant Buddhist monks. But that was organized bloodshed; assassinations, oppression of peasants, not rioting. Christians used to do a bit of violence, too. But they aren’t doing that lately, and neither are Buddhists, so why are the arty-farty crowd not picking on them? They’re a safe target, just like Jews and Christians.
