New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg was crowing.
"The number of murders this year will be lower than any time in recorded city history," Bloomberg said Friday in a statement announcing that homicides in the city this year had fallen to 414 — the fewest since it started keeping such statistics in 1963.
About the same time Friday, Chicago police were trying to get the message out that their city hadn't actually recorded its 500th homicide this year, as was being reported. A few hours later, they had to backtrack and acknowledge that, yes, in fact, "the city has seen its 500th homicide for 2012."
That's right: There were more homicides this year in Chicago than in New York, a city with three times the population. That means Chicagoans were proportionally 3.7 times more likely to be homicide victims than New Yorkers were in 2012:
Overall, crime is down in Chicago in just about every category — except the most devastating one.
"We've obviously seen, as a city, our shootings and our homicides going in a different direction," Mayor Rahm Emanuel said this month at a graduation ceremony for police recruits, vowing, "We will not rest" until that trend is reversed.
Meanwhile, in New York, "we're preventing crimes before someone is killed," Police Commissioner Ray Kelly said Friday.
New York didn't just reduce homicides — it reduced them by 19.6 percent. And Chicago didn't just have more homicides — it had 15.6 percent more.

I don’t believe it...
It’s easy to separate boroughs, and skew numbers to serve a libs purposes.
We’ll probably find out soon that this is a apples to oranges comparison.
Obviously, murder directly correlates to the size of soft drinks consumed.

I have to admit - I was skeptical about the soft drink ban.
After all, it's a removal of our freedom.
But... the evidence is in : when Bloomberg said it would save lives, he was right.
500 murders in Chicago this year, and nary a peep from the OFM (Obama-fellating media).

The system, while recognized as highly effective in reducing crime, also puts pressure on local precincts to reduce the number of reports for the seven major crimes while increasing the number of lesser arrests.[22] The two men continued and indeed stepped up Mayor Giuliani's controversial stop-and-frisk policy, which disproportionately targets black and Latino youth and is considered by some to be a form of racial profiling. In the first half of 2011 the NYC police made 362,150 such arrests, constituting a 13.5 percent increase from the same period in 2010, according to WNYC radio (which also reported that 84 percent of the people stopped were either black or Latino, and that "nine out 10 stops did not result in any arrest or ticket.")
What do you mean “you don’t believe it?” You take the boroughs, add them up, and you get a total for NYC.
Bloomberg may be a liberal nut, but the crack down on crime in NYC has been real. Of course, it started under Giuliani.
Was gonna say...Giuliani started collaring perps for the little things, then checking for outstanding warrants and getting ‘em for the big things. Because of political issues (i.e. objections from the reverends and other bases of street power that the mayor and aldercrooks depend on for votes), sue-happy lawyers and long-misdirected priorities, the situation in Chicago has gotten totally out of control. About the only “good” thing is that most of this open warfare is in areas where people already know not to go.
Maybe before Hurricane Sandy but many were murdered there after the storm and it is nothing but a lie.

So Bloomberg is going to take the credit for the murders thwarted by Mr. Reese?!! (Person of Interest :)
Surprise! The areas on the map which are most densely dotted coincide with the areas which are heavily black.
People will NEVER state the obvious so openly in the media for fear of the “R” word.
