NEW YORK (Reuters) - A suburban New York newspaper that sparked an uproar among gun enthusiasts by publishing names and addresses of residents holding pistol permits is now planning to publish even more identities of permit-toting locals.

Further names and addresses will be added as they become available to a map originally published on December 24 in the White Plains, New York-based Journal News, the newspaper said.

The original map listed thousands of pistol permit holders in suburban Westchester and Rockland counties just north of New York City.

Along with an article entitled "The gun owner next door: What you don't know about the weapons in your neighborhood," the map was compiled in response to the December 14 shooting deaths of 26 children and adults in Newtown, Connecticut, editors of the Gannett Corp.-owned newspaper said.

Someone will do the research and pull something from these maps that the so-called newspaper isn’t gonna like very much.

Well anybody that wants to talk to advertizers can start here. May I suggest the real estate section?

You know I really like that home you have advertized in LOHU, and it is close to my place of work. I also noticed you have a gun owner nearby. Will you accept this price for the inconvenience and safety concerns?

the advertisers personal information is the key.

imagine if it turns out those advertisers are being protected by being not listed.

advertiser mugshots and arrest records are all public record.

That’s like not having a ‘Gun Free Zone’ sign in front of your house.

Seems to me that if criminals know you have weapons in your house, and you know that they have that knowledge, you will make extra sure they are secured when you are not home...and when you are home, they won’t come to your house because they know you are armed.

I agree...they know you are armed but they don’t know you’re home...they go to next house because yours presents too much unknown risk.

They listed a neighbor, but not me or the guy two doors down on the other side of the street.

Bad guys come for the guns in the house listed are in for the surprise of their crooked little lives.

By the way, I work with a man from Newtown, Conn. All he says is “I don’t know, they keep changing the story, thank God we don’t have our kids in public schools.”

“The owner of this property is armed. There is nothing inside worth risking your life for.”

I’ve seen that warning put more simply,

“There is nothing inside this house that is worth your life.”

And sooner or later some Amish Darwin is going to go “I ain’t afraid of your m**********ng gun, man! I be coming in blazin’ if that what it takes!”

After which it will be time for some garbage removal.

The Leftwing faction in media is this Country’s greatest threat.

While publishing this info may not be illegal, it’s still a hostile action against gun owners. Maybe the paper’s advertisers should be deprived the patronage they would normally receive.

This paper is making it personal for the community suffering its antics.

Now publish the names of all the editors, reports and editorialists at the NY Times.

Then the Washington Post, and on and on.

So they are going to continue exposing themselves to being good victims of home invasion?

I think I heard the NRA thinks this is a fine idea, it will keep thieves out armed citizen's homes.

It seems that there is a bit of retaliatory action so the criminals can know where these journalists live safely tucked in their homes with no protection from burglars with guns.

Blogger publishes names, addresses of newspaper staff after gun-permit database

A blogger upset with a New York newspaper’s decision to publish an interactive map of local gun permit holders has returned the favor by posting the names and addresses of nearly every employee at the publication.
Blogger Christopher Fountain on For What It’s Worth published names, home address and email contact information for Journal News editor Cyndee Royle, publisher Janet Hasson and reporter Dwight Worley, who wrote an article on Sunday to accompany the map that led to widespread criticism aimed at the Lower Hudson Valley newspaper.

Journalists’ Addresses Posted In Revenge For Newspaper’s Google Map Of Gun Permit Owners

A week after the Newtown massacre, The Journal News published an interactive Google Map with the names and addresses of gun permit owners in select New York cities. The bold move has escalated into a transparency arms race, after a Connecticut lawyer posted the phone number and addresses of the Journal‘s staff, including a Google Maps satellite Image of the Publisher’s home. “I don’t know whether the Journal’s publisher Janet Hasson is a permit holder herself, but here’s how to find her to ask,” read Christopher Fountain’s blog post. The double irony here is that open data was heralded as...

Pictures of their homes, addresses, phone numbers all availiable to anyone. Thieves can call to see if anyone is home, but if there is they can just shoot them as they are unarmed.

Pretty smart people at that newspapers, they'll teach us to have rights!

looks like it’s time to put up a site of ‘gun free homes’

i wonder how the gun-grabbers would feel about that, after all, none of their personal information was expose... just a lack of public information creating the obvious deduction

either no guns in the home... or illegally owned firearms whose owners should be reported

right?
