BUDGET? Why have the pretense of constraint, when you’re a living-large, plundering progressive.

We don’t have to show you any steenkin’ budget BUMP!

“Why am I only reading of this in a relatively obscure Web posting on a moderately-read blog, rather than hearing it blasted DAILY from the lips of the likes of John Boehner, David Cantor, and Rep Ryan?”

Didn’t you get the memo?

The GOP doesn’t want a budget, either. You seriously think the GOP wants to put on paper and into law what its spending priorities are? You think either party wants to address spending at ALL? The bills sent up by the House are not really budgets, but politically tactical documents.

Give me a break.

Reality is that voters will not now accept spending cuts to themselves or anyone they like without taxes going up on those making much more than them in return as 'fairness'.

I'm not convinced the voters would accept significant spending cuts no matter how much you raised taxes on the "wealthy."

RE :”Why am I only reading of this in a relatively obscure Web posting on a moderately-read blog, rather than hearing it blasted DAILY from the lips of the likes of John Boehner, David Cantor, and Rep Ryan?
Something does not add up about the putative ‘Congressional Republicans.”

Cant disagree there.

The current back and forth on this is :

Earlier this year Senate republicans allowed Os plan to extend tax cuts to $250K of income (for everyone) to proceed in the Senate and it passed <60 but more than 51.

So Reid is demanding a vote on that same bill in the House, assuming it would pass there with Dem votes.

Congressional Republicans like Boehner say that any tax bill must start in the House per the constitution, so they suggest Reid take the already passed House bill (extends all rates) and modify it with what they want (<=$250) , then pass it in Senate now and then send it back to the House. That could be the same Senate/Obama bill.

Reid refuses to do that because he knows this time Senate Rs will filibuster it this time, blocking it with 40+ then will call Reid out on his failure.

So Reid wont do anything now because he is using the failure of the House to pass the <=$1M bill to attack House Republicans and Boehner every day on the Senate floor blaming them for everything, and his failing to pass a bill (that he tried) himself would ruin that,

So Reid will do nothing and continue to blame Republicans, and we know they will get the blame for anything that goes bad.

My thoughts : No more Sharon Angles, or Romney's or Akin’s. ‘ Look at what we must listen to in Reid because NV Republicans nominated a nutbag. There was no reason to lose that race in a Republican sweep year 2010.

I'm not convinced the voters would accept significant spending cuts no matter how much you raised taxes on the “wealthy.”

My point more is that when Republicans run on “We must cut spending on stuff you voters like but at the same time we cant afford any rich guy to pay any more in taxes because we all know a tax cut for that guy helps you, we proved that the past 12 years with Bush and obama” is not going to win national elections, WH or majorities in House/Senate. Romney tried that and if it was a winner then he would have won in a landslide.
Someone last night told me that Republicans didn't try tell voters this,

Well, we got lots of automatic deficit reduction coming automatically now, lots of tax increases and spending cuts included, and now we keep hearing its the end of the world,

Lots of stuff Dems hate coming, lots of stuff Rs hate coming. Let the finger pointing begin, err continue.

Agree. But I think we would be on the road to Greece, and very unlikely to correct the course, no matter how well the GOP explained things. Even an eloquent GOP which was capable of winning elections would be afraid to make significant cuts in govt.

Unless a Scott Walker ran for POTUS and infused the GOP with a new spirit, we may never know. I would love to be proven wrong.

RE :”Agree. But I think we would be on the road to Greece, and very unlikely to correct the course, no matter how well the GOP explained things. Even an eloquent GOP which was capable of winning elections would be afraid to make significant cuts in govt. “

I was at the gym while Obama went on live continuing his act.
He said he will demand the Senate vote on a bill that extends tax rates for income under $250K with extension of unemployment comp, so he can call out those who vote against it.

I notice Democrats sometimes call it a tax increase, sometimes they call it an extension of tax cuts. I think they do this on purpose. The purpose is to see the destruction of any opposition party.

About Americans not accepting spending cuts, I thought of the irony of all the candidates including Romney saying in that debate that they would not accept a $1 in tax increases for $10 in spending cuts. Of course Romney was just trying to get through the primary and he certainly couldn't be counted on for anything once elected. But the whole thing was pretty delusional considering where we are, and it was a Chris Wallace Setup because he didn't ask for an explanation.

House Republicans will get blamed for the cliff and Obama will be pouring more fuel on the fire as he did today.
There are not even that many here who think Bohner will hold out for long.

I get the impression for many here (who sound like Rush fans) that after really believing that Romney would win they now think that it is over, that Republicans can never win against Dems and so they should go out and make NO deals and make sure that they are blamed for a Depression caused by this game of chicken because regardless of the next two elections, Obama’s legacy will be the depression, and they (Rs) will get all blame no matter what and Obama will get any credit for the next few years for anything good, so at least Obama will be the depression POTUS.

Thoughts on that? You sense this or get these thoughts yourself? It certainly feeds our frustration.

I guess it would be more accurate to show that the voters have a credit card they share with the govt. but that’s kind of complicated for a cartoon. Eventually the voters will be charged.

I agree and it could have shown him pulling the person’s card out of their wallet. Good call...

Great analysis. I agree on the Romney piece. However, you and I will perhaps have to “agree to disagree” on the “no more Angles and Akins” piece. I will always support those with principles. Nuttiness is not a plus, but why should it be a disqualifier? (Have you ever listened to any Dem Senator speak?) :-)
