I suggested that General Dynamics attempt to sell an upgrade to their M1K1’s to GD’s marketing VP. The Korean M1K1 tank, is the M1A1 Abrams with a diesel engine. The VP told me that GD wouldn’t deal with Korea. Hyundai, who build the M1K1 conducted elaborate espionage against GD and bribed, threatened and stole the technical data package, which would allow them to build their own spares. The Koreans then went into business trying to sell spare parts to the US and allies at a fraction of GD’s price.

Anybody who sells their cutting edge technology would face similar risks.
