If it’s true that the mother was preparing to have him committed, how did he find out about it? More importantly, if she knew her son was a danger to himself and others to the degree that he needed to be involuntarily committed, how on earth did he have access to all her weapons and her car?

So, the mother of a disturbed individual taught him how to use, and allowed him access to firearms. Then, while trying to obtain court ordered control so as to have him committed, never considered the need to lock those firearms up to keep them from his access. Yep, sounds exactly the right scenerio to justify banning firearms/s.

This is a parenting and mental health issue, not a firearms issue.

His knowledge of possible committal could have been a triggering event but there was a bigger problem. His uncle stated he was being treated with Fanapt a powerful anti-psychotic contra.

There is an extremely interesting Ticker over at Market Ticket dealing with this
http://market-ticker.org/cgi-ticker/akcs-www?post=215059

The drug Fanapt was approved under suspicious circumstances
http://www.examiner.com/article/fanapt-the-rise-and-fall-of-an-antipsychotic
Quote: “
Vanda did none of those things. Instead, in November, they simply resubmitted the drug to the FDA, using leftover data from the original clinical trials.

It was such a jaw-dropping long shot that Vanda’s investors couldn’t get rid of stock fast enough. Stock prices fell below $1, and the company’s worth plummeted to less than cash on hand. At Vanda, there were layoffs and cutbacks, followed by a proxy fight trying to force Vanda to shut down, sell off its assets, and give any remaining money back to the shareholders.

Then, on May 6, 2009, stock analyst Adam Feuerstein observed something strange: “Hell froze over Wednesday night, right before a squadron of flying pigs took to the sky.”

For reasons only clear to the FDA, the new schizophrenia drug had been approved.”

For some reason the FDA approved Fanapt. Then this surfaces
http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2012-03-05/fda-chemist-liang-sentenced-to-five-years-prison-in-insider-trading-case.html

A corrupt FDA chemist in the drug approval unit makes 1 million from approval of Fanapt and gets caught. Things that make you go Hmmm.

Several days ago they found out from multiple sources that they knew what the movie was. Then they refused to release it.

This is entirely plausible. Trying to get conservatorship was going to be a huge uphill climb.

“...but that could not be confirmed because a court official told FoxNews.com such records are sealed.”

Of course.

Heard it from a friend who heard it from a friend who heard it from another you’ve been messing around.

Except that he didn't just "snap." The whole thing was planned out and executed in exquisite detail.

WTH is wrong with people these days? Back when I was his age we had bigger worries, like the draft. When I was 20 I had already been through boot camp and off to my first duty station. Poker, chess and monopoly were the only games I played unless I could find a pinball machine in a hamburger joint. Guns....everywhere.

This makes sense.

Next question: Why was his "treatment" such a complete failure?

I have to presume this kid was medicated from the time he entered elementary school....

Given the implications. If he was committeed, his life would essentially be over. Ruined beyond repair. zero hope for any kind of future.

Seems like a decent synopsis of the troubled state of families these days. Broken home, child feels abandoned, whatever is left of the security from having any family at all dissolves. I guess a lot of kids in this situation just carry on and repeat the cycle. This one had other issues and snapped.

Used to be that families stayed together for the sake of the children, for better or worse. This family took the new, normal route and something unexpected happened.

Wonder if society will actually learn anything from this.

Funny how the story is changing, school officials said Nancy Lanza had nothing to do with school and no one ever heard of her.

I believe this could be it.

Does anyone remember the movie “A Beautiful Mind”? I lived with a man with a severe psychosis - that movie kept bringing moments to me that I lived through. It’s the telephone scene that brings back the real memories - anyone who knows someone will is mentally ill knows the trauma that occurs when the loved one finally says, that’s it - and gets on the phone to call the ambulance or police or whatever. They can go berserk.

Even if the ill person has good experiences at the hospital (and they often do) if they are really in a psychotic break they can go wild and get very, very violent and irrational when you lift that telephone. Seems mom was at a “telephone” moment, figuratively.

He had to have been making some threats and other way-out-there utterances to force his mother to arrange for commitment. I don’t think one can forcibly be committed unless they are a threat or make threats to themselves or others.
