ST. LOUIS COUNTY (KMOX) - St. Louis County Police Chief Tim Fitch says it is time to talk about arming civilian school personnel following Fridays massacre in Newtown, Connecticut, comparing it to arming airline pilots after September 11, 2001.
I see it no differently, he said. Pilots have been armed now for many many years, weve not had another hijacking and the issue is, for the bad guy, he doesnt know which airplane hes getting on, if the pilot is armed or not.
Fitch said the killing will not be stopped by legislation or laws. If theres somebody thats really hellbent on doing something like this, theyre not going to care what the law is.
The chief is adamant about his plans but realizes his calls for arming school workers will be met with resistance.
We touched on this issue with heroin problem with schools. When we first were talking about the heroin problem in St. Louis, many of the school officials ran and they just hid out, they said nope, we dont have a heroin problem in our schools, Fitch said.
They started to find out some of the students were involved in this and some of the students were dying of heroin overdoses. It forced them to have this discussion and to take action, inviting us into their schools to talk about the heroin problem in St. Louis.
Concerning the possibility of gun control, Fitch said its just not going to happen, and called for an increased focus on mental health instead.
One of the first thing governments tend to cut back on in tight times are mental health services, he said. We know this individual has a mental health history in Connecticut, weve seen that in all the school shootings, and additional resources would be helpful.
But, last resort, somebodys got to take action and they got to do it quickly.
Public school teachers are by design or wish completely irresponsible and incompetent. Asking them to learn how to shoot is out of the question for them. It already is out of the question for them to discipline school children, let alone protecting those they hate most to teach.
Also, I know of no Union infestated industry which promotes everyone as responsible for safety, quality and speed of production. This has to be handled by “specialists in the domain” who themselves have a special union “license” to promote their police powers over idiot leftists.
SO, there, in a nutshell, this is the mentality of the “government can be my nanny” mentality.
I don’t pay taxes so a cop can benefit a neighbor now and then. IT is not a free for all charity, but the elite loves that idea, and the poor and liberals think it is their salvation.’
GOod bye economy.
WHO is responsible for the safety of my child at school? Do they have the means to protect my child? Are they willing to go to extreme levels of violence to protect the children, as any parent rightfully would?
Most of the “precious” people have armed security - our leaders, celebrities, & sports stars. Aren't children precious?
Amusement parks have security guards. So do malls, banks, & airports. What precious things are they guarding, & why are they more precious than little children?
What is it about public schools, which contain some of the most precious, irreplaceable assets of this nation, that they should go unguarded?
When the subject of gun control comes up, reply, "That's fine, but what are we going to do to protect the children?" Keep asking it!
Man, my latest post just reflected your story. Feminist Unions are lazy by design and want the thug cop, they want the thug cop to do the deciding for them.
Call your representatives in Congress and demand they modify the Gun-Free School Zones Act to allow school personnel and other lawful CCW holders to have firearms in the zones.
Do it for the children. Problem solved. Keep the feds out of the program other than modifying the law.
Time to hold the putrid leftists responsible for these mass murders. Arrest the school administrators who set up these gun-free zones and charge them with murder.
Yes. When the left clamors for a solution that is "void of political consideration," it means "their way, or the highway." When presented with a solution that will work, they reject it if the solution doesn't fit their political sense.
1000% Agree
This. The killer broke the law on murder, theft, possession of handguns without a pistol permit, weapons on school grounds and probably numerous other laws. If he didn't have access guns he would have found some other way to kill a bunch of kids.
My rep is a liberal freak dem asshole, so that’s a non-starter.
“...Keep the feds out of the program...”
Understood...but my thoughts on it are thus; they force people to put the kids in school x number of hours, x number of days, then leave them at the mercy of whatever - it’s THEIR responsibility to make sure that place is inviolable.
Hell, even armed neighborhood volunteers would be a good start.
After 9-11-01, when the muzztrash were talking about hitting school buses and schools, the very FIRST thing that should have been done was arm folks up at the front and rear doors.
But we’re dealing with political psychos here who can’t WAIT for an event to happen...some might think it’s almost like they make these “gun-free zones” intentionally so something DOES happen and they have an excuse to enact more law... Some might think that...and do.
Exactly! It was a huge LIBERAL effort to de-institutionalize all mental patients and to "mainstream" them. It is likely the prozac zombies who do so much of this horrible violence, as in Colorado-Columbine.
It makes the liberals feel really good about closing all those state hospitals where all these poor mental patients had been "warehoused".
A mass-murder here or there is just a bump in the road to them, and is the fault of, you guessed it - guns.
Call them anyway. Spread the word. If nothing else you might get to see one of those 360 degree head spins.
Good to see you, Dave! Hope all is well.
Great story - that is so typically liberal! May God save our children from this evil.
