We had friends who had a bipolar son of college age. They made the mistake of allowing him access to their hunting guns and he eventually killed himself. Some people just aren’t convinced that their “crazy” kids on meds aren’t a threat to themselves and others.
What we have here is a mental public health issue, not a guns are evil issue. I don’t know what law you can write to change it, since it gets down to personal responsibility.
Here's a little background for anyone willing to do their homework.
Do you know anyone who works in a a busy ER? I mean the kind that draws patients from a wide area.
Ask them how mental illness and drug abuse are impacting the mission to take care of acute onset patients.
Did you know that many ERs, more and more, actually have *boarding* facilities for the violently mentally ill...right next to you who have come in to get your daughter's ear infection treated.
A madhouse in your ER.
I'll keep my guns, thank you very much.
I agree. Also see the problem with who gets to define ‘crazy’....Obama’s fascist goons would probably define conservatives as ‘crazy’ and lock us up first. But at some point common sense has to rule. Most people know when their kid is ‘off’......don’t put guns in their hands!! People who are violently mentally ill...should be put in secure institutions. We have people roaming the streets who have long histories of violent mental disturbances and their families can’t do anything!
We can’t put them away because of ridiculous liberal laws.
I think we are going to find that this mother was a little screwy herself...sadly.
