Newark, N.J. Mayor Cory Booker says the federal governments Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (food stamps), which spent $80.4 billion in fiscal 2012, is not a government handout.
I hope and understand that people are getting a better recognition that this is a program that really helps America, helps families in need, Booker said on Friday, while describing his fourth day of living on a SNAP budget.
"Its not a government handout, he said. If anything, its a safety net that helps people through difficult times and bridges them towards stability.

It’s a handout-——idiot.
If I had to make a pie-in-the-sky guess, I would say less than 15% of the people on food stamps actually need them. The other 85% are lazy moochers who want their free food, big screen TV with cable, and leased luxury cars.
Don’t forget their free phones!
How discriminatory of em. After all, “bears” refers to a certain segment of the gay community and all . . .
I wonder if he just got back from Seattle.
Up is down. Bad is good. Black is white. In is out...ad infinitum. These DIMocRATs are tooooooo much! Am I missing something...are the recipients of this HANDOUT paying for this stuff??????? Is this mayor’s head misshapen?????
I don’t care. I’m supporting this guy for Gov. We need to stop Fat RINO stupid Christie from being the 2016 nominee.
You forgot the Party-approved “war is peace, freedom is slavery, ignorance is strength” . . .
Maybe even back to 2010.
I really do need to go to the reeducation camp for a while...don’t I?
Why don’t you, Mayor, ask WHY these people have to have this government “safety net” IOW, welfare instead of working to support themselves?
Where are the great jobs that Newark had in the 40s, 50’s and 60’s?
Why can’t people SUPPORT THEMSELVES?
Where are the jobs Obama promised?
This ignorant turd is beyond belief.
I’m often reminded of what happened in Manhattan, NYC, which used to be one of the country’s biggest manufacturing centers in the 50s (if you can believe that). Along came Mayor Robert F. Wagner, who instituted all sorts of government programs, and the consequence was so many manufacturing jobs fleeing the city that he had to expand government services (a self-perpetuating disease). Of course, NYC was one of the first cities that instituted total government control of the mass transit systems, forcing the private subway companies to hold down fares to unprofitable levels until they eventually had to sell out to the city (the city-owned IND came along as unfair “competition” as well); expansion came to a standstill after that. Such policies rapidly expanded to neighboring cities such as Newark, of course, with even worse ramifications.
Maybe it helps Americans, maybe it helps families in need, maybe it’s a safety net that yadda yadda yadda ... but none of those changes the fact that it’s a government handout.
This reminds me of the people who say Social Security isn’t an “entitlement” because they’re entitled to it.
No, it’s Reparations, right Cory?
