Michigan’s governor sides with right to work
The Washington Times ^ | December 9, 2012 | Andrea Billups

He forged a reputation as a moderate, can-do businessman-politician, but Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder, a Republican, has taken a leap into the political unknown by embracing a right-to-work bill that has put him at the center of an ideological battle with the state’s powerful union movement that shows no signs of dying down in the weeks ahead.

With President Obama, who openly criticized the right-to-work drive, set to visit Detroit on Monday, opinions are sharply divided over the wisdom of the Republican push to make this longtime bastion of union strength into the nation’s 24th right-to-work state.

Unions and Democrats suffered one of their biggest legislative defeats in years as bills that would undercut a key source of labor funding sailed through both houses of the state Legislature last week. Right-to-work opponents sought this weekend for legal and procedural loopholes that ultimately might defeat any future law, including recall efforts, against lawmakers who led the right-to-work fight as well as legal challenges to tie up the law in court.

But the state’s business leaders, sensing victory, said they were buoyed by the likely passage of the bills, calling right-to-work key to accelerating the state’s economic resurgence after a long period of stagnation and decline.

If Mr. Snyder, a former high-tech executive and venture capitalist elected two years ago, faces a divisive fight by promising to sign the bill, the rhetoric-eschewing governor seems undaunted.

“When you talk about giving workers the freedom to choose, isn’t that something we should all be behind? Not being put in the position where people are forced to send them dues because they are wanting to keep jobs?” Mr. Snyder told Fox News’ Neil Cavuto on Friday, saying he was excited to get the law onto the books.

He should set up a table at the gate of the country club for union leaders and sign the bill there.

The thing that I can’t stop laughing about is that it was the union thugs that gave us Snyder.
We were on vacation during the primary and when we got back home, first thing I did was hit the ‘puter to see WHO/what part of MI voted for this guy...
There it was in black and white. Jackson, Saginaw, Flint, etc.
Apparantly THEY thought that they’d get a better deal from him than the other guys and knew thier Rat didn’t stand a chance after Jenny, so figured to screw us out of someone we wanted.
Isn’t that what they call “hoist on thine own petard?”
Serves the rats right for once.
I doubt that all the rucus tomorrow and Tue. will do any more than alienate even more of the rest of us.
They’re primarily to blame for the Jenny years and Obama Sheite and are going to get the backlash I’m afraid. (not)

Oh boy, the top union money grabbing, yet somehow perfectly transparent TOTUS (just ask him) is coming to my state! It's like CHRISTMAS!

Gotta stand for a photo-op with his union thug contributors, even though he doesn't really GAF about them either. Useful morons, nothing more.

About 40% of them will stop contributing to democrats immediately (April 1st when the law takes effect) and I’m guessing that another 20 or 30 percent will opt out within a year after that.

This is devastating to the rats.

heh, heh, heh.

I love this...It may not change how many vote but it’s sure going to cut down on the Rats revenue.

I wonder if Obama realizes the higher he taxes the “rich”, the less they will have to contribute to him.

30 or 40 percent are already voting republican. After all there are plenty of union and former union FReepers. There have been pro RTW union members involved in bringing this fight to the front.

I think it was smart to exclude all cops, not so much ‘firefighters’ but that’s another day.

Tuesday here in Michigan is an unknown with the signing of the RTW bill along with the potential for violence from the left.

And that stinkin’ puke from Kenya will be here tomorrow to stir and stoke the racist class warfare pot, and if there is bloodshed in Lansing come Tuesday hope it falls in the hands of Barry Soetero.

The Michigan State Police (union) are charged with protecting the Capitol. They will.

But the real action to watch is what the Lansing cops will do...if the unionists get ugly.

I pray for peace and civility.
