Great movie! I thought Montand stole the movie, though, as that mean, tightfisted peasant.
SPOILER ALERT: (for anyone who hasn’t seen J DeF)
He did steal the movie, largely because , by the very end,
he has all the weight of Greek tragedy wash over him, and,
having learned he has brought about the death of his own son,
he has nothing left to do but go lie down in his bed, and die
by daybreak.
