Donald Trump Endorses Pal Anna Wintour for Ambassador

Despite their disparate political beliefs and the fact that there is no actual confirmation that Anna Wintour is being considered for an ambassador position, Donald Trump has taken to Twitter to endorse her.

He Tweeted yesterday,

I am happy to hear that Pres.Obama is considering giving Anna Wintour @voguemagazine an ambassadorship. She is a winner & really smart!

We can’t disagree, but we’re a little…surprised. In this past election, Trump endorsed and threw tons of money at the Romney campaign, and has said some pretty nasty things about the current president, for whom Wintour was a top-tier fundraiser.

We guess they aren’t total enemies though. Apparently, Wintour once talked Trump into letting Marc Jacobs use the Plaza ballroom for a show early in his career, when he was too broke to pay for a venue. Wintour also once offered Ivanka Trump a job at Vogue. Also, they’re both tennis fans and we all know how much Anna Wintour loves tennis.

While it’s nice that they can put aside their political differences and be friends, let’s be real: This endorsement doesn’t necessarily bode well for Wintour if she does actually want the position.

As with most ambassadorships, you don’t have to be overly bright or have any experience in foreign affairs. The three biggest requirements are: be wealthy, be popular and sociable, and provide extensive campaign donations to the president. It is for the most part a figurehead job that feeds someone’s ego. If we were extremely lucky, the Food Stamp President would appoint most of Hollywood to ambassadorships.

Which cracks me up when young people want to join the State Department thinking one day they’ll be sent to Paris or London.

It’s far more likely you’ll be stamping passports in Cameroon.

True dat. When I was stationed at our embassy in Buenos Aires, the ambassador was a wealthy California businessman who contributed heavily to President Reagan. Ditto Botswana. I passed through Gabarone. The ambassador there also was very generous to Ronaldus Magnus. He was big-game hunter, and for him, Botswana was paradise.

I (almost) remember when J. Gilbert Wynant, a former two term Republican governor of New Hampshire, replaced Joe Kennedy as Ambassador to Britain (The Brits loved him, hated Kennedy). (FDR wanted to get him out of the country as he feared he was the only republican that could beat him...even though the republicans kicked him out of the party because he was all in favor of the raw deal (or whatever he called it). He the had an affair with Churchill’s daughter and later, upon his return to the US, shot himself in despair with a revolver to the head, similar to Gail Wynant in Ayn Rand’s “The Fountainhead”. I’ve always wondered if there was a connection. Averell Harriman was in London as the expediter of the Lend-Lease Program although he wanted the ambassador job. He, in turn, had an affair with Churchill’s daughter-in-law Pamela whom he married much later in life...after he divorced his wife, of course. She, Pamela also had affairs with numerous others, including the married Edward R. Murrow. Pamela Harriman became the spokesman for the Democrat party, of course, in her later years...a great friend of what’s her name at the Washington Post.

...and to add to the historical record, Averell (the worthless rich kid)’s dad made all his fortune in the transcontinental railroad financing scandals of the 1870’s. The more things change the more they remain the same.

Obama using our gov't to pay back his cronies Wintour was a top-tier fundraiser. If Trump didn't bring it to light for whatever reason, we wouldn't know of 'this one'.

?? Republicans aren’t hiding his BC, Republicans aren’t Pelosi, Republicans aren’t the judges who said we don’t have standing. Is Col Lakin a republican? I never checked. But we know he is a Patriot. However, you must consider him stupid.

If Ms. Wintour wants to be an ambassador, I think there might be a vacancy in Libya.
