DeMint takes parting shot at Boehner
The Hill ^ | Thursday December 6, 2012

Sen. Jim DeMint (R-S.C.), who shocked Washington on Thursday with the announcement that he would resign his Senate seat in January to become president of the the Heritage Foundation, sent a parting shot at Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) over the “fiscal cliff” negotiations.

“I’m not with Boehner,” DeMint said on CNN’s "The Situation Room." “This government doesn’t need any more money, this country needs less government.”

“Speaker Boehner’s $800 billion tax hike will destroy American jobs and allow politicians in Washington to spend even more, while not reducing our $16 trillion debt by a single penny,” he said in a statement. “If neither party leadership is going to put forward a serious plan to balance the budget and pay down the debt, we should end this charade.”

“Wait.. If Palin was a quitter for stepping down before the end of her term what does that make DeMint?”

Possibly a strong CONSERVATIVE candidate for President. DeMint is going where he can be most effective. Building the conservative base and pulling them together as a coalition.

No racing to the left with the RINOS. Sitting under the Dems and Reed in the Senate is no a no man’s land for a conservative.

He will be much more effective at the Heritage Foundation and his voice will not be drowned out by the leftists in Washington.

Palin did the right thing too. She has been very effective since she left the Governorship.

A quitter. Hope he likes he new job. I’ll never vote for him.

Gee Whiz, give it a rest already. Are you still working the first job you ever had? Have you always worked at each job exactly as long as everyone else thought you should? What if you made a commitment to doing what was best for the company, and it turns out at a particular moment, you quitting was the best thing for the company? Is that still quitting? Or what if you're a commander with troops who trust your judgment, and you decide to strategically withdraw from one battle so you can regroup for a more important one? Are you still a quitter then? Even George Washington was a quitter by those standards.

Look, if we don't keep and nurture our own best talent (Palin, DeMint, etc.), who will we have left? Brainless people who don’t know enough to quit a dead end when they ought to, that's who. We can't afford to be leaderless, least of all over non-issues. You give up your vote for DeMint if you must, but I promise you this; I will see that vote and raise you two more (No, not cheaters votes, persuaders votes, the good kind), just to make the point. If an army is going to win, it needs troops and it needs commanders. If we "shoot" all our own commanders, and especially those with exceptional strategic skills, how does that help us?

DeMint could have stuck around till Boner was deposed. You know. But It seems he has plans outside of DC to help the conservative movement. He was feeling like being in the senate was not enough.

“This government doesn’t need any more money, this country needs less government.”

That should have been the theme of this election cycle. We could have earned a lot more votes with this message. Instead it was....the economy sucks. I can do better...and that just made it a battle of two personalities, not two ideologies.

Yeah, and on Limbaugh's show, he blew a kiss towards Harry Reid. Pelosi showed the true spirit of bipartianship, however.

They are ALL captured by the system.

"For crying out loud look at the POS the democrats had and he’s the leader of the free world?"

They are all P'sOS, Romney was an absolute Republican through the whole "circus" of running...

No message, spine, fortitude and like a republican he caved on every issue, and just like McCain in 08 did not even try to win or run for that matter.

There is no difference between Dem or Repb....

It is them vs us and we are too stupid or apathetic to stand up to them

A $800 billion tax hike would be the undoing of America’s economy. This is money that will be taken out of free enterprise. It will be money that would go to capital now being flushed down the toilet of big government. Democrats will never use new taxes to reduce the deficit. Instead they will increase state workers and more government waste. This tax hike will take away investment money to grow new plant and pay for new government regulations.

The direct consequence would be to slow economic growth which would impact employment. It would be our nations future when our sons and daughters cannot find jobs in the areas they were educated. Will it be one more reason for corporations to move their operations out of the country?

I remember Dick Army saying the say thing back in the 90’s I believe. “I can do more on the outside than I can do from within” What a load of shit, translation, I can make a shitload more money in the private section than working for the people of my state. Army is leaving Freedom works with @ 8 million?

Can a vote for Speaker be called at any time during the Congressional session, or once he is selected as Speaker does that entitle him to sit in the position for the entire two years?

The Speaker of the House serves entirely at the pleasure of a majority of the members of that chamber. An election for Speaker can thus be held at any time during a Congressional session, so long as a majority of the House support such a vote.

On Rush’s show today he had DeMint and the retiring president of the Heritage Foundation on the phone. When Rush joked, “Now, Boehner didn’t force the two of you out, did he?” The two guests laughed and DeMint replied, “No, in fact it could go the other way.”

Rush didn’t follow up (and maybe he didn’t catch DeMint’s reply at all) but I found it VERY interesting.

Maybe instead you should rethink your branding of Palin as a quitter.
