Typical crew of a Nimitz-class carrier. No reports of Marine amphibious landing ships, so no indications of a landing force, just air ops.

A few sources list the Nimitz class as having a ship’s complement of 3,200 plus a little over 2,600 for the embarked squadrons.

The Marines should be on board the ships of an amphibious squadron, usually and LHA or LHD plus several LSDs and LPDs.

having served on board two carriers, the number 8,000 seems pretty exagerated.

I am reminded of the story, I think it was on Johnny Carson maybe To Tell a Lie, years back about two brothers in the Navy who went home for Christmas and dicovered they were stationed on the same aircraft carrier.
