I contacted Samaritan Ministries and told them that they were always my back up plan if Obamacare was passed and implemented. I asked them about rumors of doctor shortages. I was told that these doctors still have to work.

I took that to mean that perhaps they will work within private networks of Health Sharing organizations. I hope I’m right.

I was talking to a couple of people yesterday and one said that he said his daughter had decided to be a vet instead of a doctor. He seemed disappointed.

I told him that it was the best decision she ever made in her life, unless she wanted to be working for the government in ten years.

They both looked at me like I was crazy.

I bet Bob Costas won’t complain about that use of guns.

I’m out. Sold my practice in August. If I had waited until Jan 2013 the capital gains on the sale would have cost me tens of thousands more. I feel sorry for docs who may be too young or who have taken on too much debt to get out. My brother is in that situation. He is a very unhappy internist.

I’m looking at overseas jobs. Good pay, less taxes. I just need a couple more years.

My doc’s primary group is expanding and just built a huge building with at least 50 new examining rooms. I would say that the practice is ready to hire more dr-extenders and take on the Obamacare medicine.

They are hopeful and excited about Obamacare.

He seems to be the exception. I’ve heard only negatives from my doctor and from friends doctors. I think the good ones are getting out, to be replaced by Third World docs who will be willing to work for less money under a government run system.

You’re not far wrong. More and more of primary care is being handled by nurse practitioners and physician assistants. Mind, these providers are often EXCELLENT, and the P.A.s have to take med school courses and pass rigorous exams. But they’re the primary care gatekeepers, and it becomes more difficult to simply go see a specialist if you need one; there are delays for appointments. This happens all the time in the UK, and it’s going to take place more and more frequently here.

I work for a physician now. When our patients ask, “Why don’t you like Obamacare? What do you think is going to be so awful?” she says grimly, “Our generation is simply not going to live as long as our parents did.”

Does anyone else recall the comment on another Obamacare thread in which the commenter said that his doctor told him that he (the doctor) would have to pay a penalty if he put a stent in anyone over sixty? I neglected to bookmark it.

Equally crappy and dangerous health care for everybody is better, by their lights, then good health care for the vast majority.

Isn't that because Obamacare's biggest fans (in congress in particular) are exempt from having to be subjected to it? Demand that if anyone must participate, ALL must do so!

Socialism doesn’t work that way. Even before it was called socialism, proto-socialists had as a strong belief in the idea that only 1 in 10 people could be “masters”, “the elite”, or other “leaders”, in something of a parody of the European noble classes. The other 9 in 10 were the “masses”, “proles”, “hoi polloi”, or even slaves.

A good example of this can be found in the writings of George Fitzhugh, “Cannibals All!, or Slaves Without Masters”. Not just an apologist for slavery, but so convinced that slavery was a social good, that 9 out of 10 persons should be slaves.

Yet his was a latter day reflection of such philosophers as Ralph Waldo Emerson, who believed that mankind should be reduced to widely separated rural villages, kept technologically backwards and denied history by itinerant “Orphic Poets” (masters), who would in effect rule over them and keep them from improving their lives, by lying to them about current events and history, even twisting the Bible to create false parables.

The religious faith and principles of socialism are such that even though most are terribly ignorant of philosophy, history, and socialism itself, they can recreate its major articles of faith, though never directly taught them.

Much of it is a parody of the Bible, by the way, but omitting God and putting “man” in God’s place.
