College Professors Get What They Asked For in Obamacare, Don't Like It Much
American Thinker ^ | 12/01/2012 | Gary Jason

There is an antique saying -- no less true for its antiquity -- that you need to be careful what you wish for, because you just might get it. This came to mind when I read a recent report about what is happening at a Pennsylvania college.

One of President Obama's most loyal -- not to say fawning -- constituencies clearly is academia. His rate of support among collegiate faculty and administrators surely approaches near-unanimity on the typical campus. This is why the news about the Community College of Allegheny County (CCAC) is so richly ironic. CCAC has just announced that because of ObamaCare, it will have to slash the hours of 400 of its employees, about half of whom are adjunct instructors. This is because under new law, companies and other organizations employing 50 or more employees are required to provide full health care insurance (at high cost, because of a host of new mandates the law includes) for all employees working 30 or more hours a week. This means that employers have a tremendous incentive -- indeed, virtually a gun at their heads -- to either cut hours for employees to under 30 hours per week or eliminate workers outright (by outsourcing, offshoring, contracting out, and automating), or to keep the employees under 50 by simply not expanding.

This has led numerous private companies start taking precisely those actions -- including Abbot Labs, Applebee's, Boston Scientific, Covidien, Dana Holding, Darden Restaurants, Kinetic Concepts, Kroger, Lockheed-Martin, Medtronic, New Energy, Papa John's Pizza, Smith & Nephew, Stryker, TANCOA Janitorial, and Welch Allyn. For example, major restaurant chains such as Olive Garden and Red Lobster are already moving employees to under 30 hours a week. Boston Scientific has said that it will lay off 1,400 workers and shift production to China.

The American people will never confess their failure here.

From observing the abridged revisionist history taught in public schools and universities, it appears so.

Too bad the stupid "super Pacs" can't figure out how to run a campign NOW that shows people the results of the election!! That would be 100,000,000 worth the investment.

While they are at it - 90,000 timber jobs and higher housing prices to save the Spotted Owl - but others owls are killing them - because we can't thin the forests!!

Most people see so little real news they ahve no idea of the damage done by voters, who favor socialism or environmentalism!!

...working harder for much less. This crap will NOT improve the economy.

Yes, not only working harder and receiving a less amount in devalued (currency) compensation, they will be producing less, as this is an inefficient economic design.

I’ve been having fun with a few county workers I know that voted Obama. They have no clue that ObamaCare will affect them first. Both are over 50 and think ObamaCare will take care of them best. Stupid liberals.

Popcorn time. I hope all fellow Freepers have prepped reasonably well for what awaits us all.

When useful idiots finally become aware, they get very angry. For those of us that were aware from the beginning, we can’t get much more angry.

Don’t blame me. I voted for Romney.

Don't blame ME. I voted for PALIN!

(Back in 2008, which would have prevented Obaama from ever *becoming* Pres_ent.)

Cheers!

Obamacare is the giant suppository that was prescribed by Doc 0bama and the Dims, with a helpful shove by SCROTUS..

I prefer SCROTUMS (Supreme Court, Rulers of These United Metrosexual States) -- although if that one misandry-dripping justice who wants all womyn gets her way, we might have to change the acronym again).

Cheers!

Oh but you see it isn't what you want. That is the beauty or nightmare of all of this. We all have likes and dislikes. Some people may not mind that their professor is working two different types of jobs. They may find that it is rather versatile or refreshing to receive instruction by someone who is working in two different types labor fields.

More than likely the person at Steak&Shake may be part timing at Friday's or your professor may be splitting his time between the local university trade school. Who knows? We will just have to wait until after the first of the year to see how all of this will play out in the working field.

I don't like this whole scenario at all. 4 years ago our country was much better off. We are declining more and more but in the next few months I think the declining will escalate.

I meant official protest; the kind that would serve to restrain the administrative excesses of this Marxist maniac.

There’s lots of talk - and with talk and a quarter, one can make a phone call.

That seems to be a very widespread phenomenon - that everyone wants to be “popular.”

In this age of burgeoning Marxism, what that seems to mean in practice is that everyone in power plays to the idiots in the cheap seats, and joins in the chorus of those who want to rob the producing classes in order to offer handouts to the noisy mob.

As the evident history of the Twentieth Century reveals to anyone with a brain, however, it’s the case that once the producing class has been reduced to serfdom, the nation’s economy falls and the nation is reduced to penury such that everyone is thrown into poverty and the government imposes tyranny to maintain power while controlling the protests. All in the name of “the people” of course.

This will very soon be the lot of the United States, inasmuch as no one, it seems, is inclined to learn from the lessons of history.

But once the mob takes over the running of government, national idiocy becomes the norm.

And Obama and the Democrats have handed the running of our government over to our nation’s lowest common denominator - the nation’s idiots.

You mean it is just a natural part of the business that employees would work at multiple establishments?

Most don’t t know of The Frankfurt School. Well hidden source of our Marxist indoctrination, with a long term plan that centered on the children. Please, all, search and learn of it.
