Yes, as a Southerner myself and a supporter of the traditional Southern culture, I can’t disagree with you there. It’s become a slogan, but no less true for that, that we should have picked our own damn cotton.
But I will say in our defense that post Civil War, no one knew better than Southerners how blacks can be when left to their own devices. We’ve lived with them as a large minority amongst us for centuries, when for most of that time many Northerners had never seen a black person, and felt quite the morally superior people for coming here and telling us how wrong we were, until their own cities were inundated and then overtaken. Now when it’s too late, they learn the lesson through such entities as Detroit and Gary IN.
There are more white killed every year by blacks than blacks were lynched in the history of lynching. Some of those lynched had actually committed crimes. Those figures also include whites who were lynched. EVERY YEAR blacks murder more whites than blacks were lynched in the ENTIRE HISTORY of lynching.
