McConnell 'Burst Into Laughter' as Geithner Outlined Obama's Plan
The Weekly Standard ^ | November 29,2012 | FRED BARNES

Mitch McConnell, the Senate Republican leader, says he “burst into laughter” Thursday when Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner outlined the administration proposal for averting the fiscal cliff. He wasn’t trying to embarrass Geithner, McConnell says, only responding candidly to his one-sided plan, explicit on tax increases, vague on spending cuts.

Geithner’s visit to his office left McConnell discouraged about reaching a “balanced” deal on tax hikes and spending reductions designed to prevent a shock to the economy in January. “Nothing good is happening” in the negotiations, McConnell says, because of Obama’s insistence on tax rate hikes for the wealthy but unwillingness to embrace serious spending cuts

Geithner suggested $1.6 trillion in tax increases, McConnell says, but showed “minimal or no interest” in spending cuts. When congressional leaders went to the White House three days after the election, Obama talked of possible curbs on the explosive growth of food stamps and Social Security disability payments. But since Geithner didn’t mention them, those reductions appear to be off the table now, McConnell says.

I won't be laughing when McConnell votes in favor of whatever plan Harry Reid places before him just like he did 15 months ago. Back then, he voted to raise the debt ceiling by $2.5 trillion, which was supposed to carry us through March 2013. And he did so without getting a single spending cut at the time. Instead, he got a promise that defense spending would be cut in the future.

And here we are today listening to McConnell complain about a plan which he helped put in place. November 1980 cannot come soon enough.

I’m not betting NOW is the point of “enough is enough”.

After BamaClaus was re-elected, by whatever hook or crook, everything from that point is just damage control. How much damage can be controlled depends on how long this drags out.

At some point, what the Pubbies do won’t matter, our Founding Father’s grand experiment will be over

“Mitch McConnell, the Senate Republican leader, says he “burst into laughter”

sure he did. And so did Geithner, with him...they were both yukking it up over the deal McConnell just cut with the Senate Dems...about how they’re planning to put the bipartisan screws on FlyOver Country come January.

The Pubbies should laugh at EVERY proposal by made by these clowns. Unfortunately, it's likely a nervous laugh...right before they cave.

Pubbies have yet to figure out how to get the message out.

Well, they're idiots in that case. Not a day goes by, that some congressional Republican doesn't have a microphone shoved in their face. Lots of them are on TV and radio talk shows, too.

No one's stopping them from explaining the root basics of our fiscal problems, but every time they open their yaps, I just hear, "wah, wah, wah, wah, wah....."

There has been a huge increase in SS disability in the last 4 years, and there was plenty of fraud to begin with.

It is a real problem and will have to be addressed at some point.

was talking about this earlier to a group of people.

maybe they should call bozo’s bluff, let the taxes go up and see the debt not go down and that way the GOP should say in two years his plan did not work , he did not do spending and it;s been a disaster.

That way we cannot be blamed for not working wiht him or not have the snide remarks in two years to come back and let the left do their usual crap.

After all how many voted for this and have money?

BTW This is a thought so don;t all or some of you get mad

If the House wilts, they are nothing more than a squeeky rubber stamp. Our form of government wasn't meant to be quick and nimble, it was meant to be representative and fair. Elections have consequences and whoever wins the presidency is no more special than any other branch of the government. Time for our House leadership to step up.

Exactly! The Kenyan Marxist won but one third of the federal -the fool has no mandate! In fact, the fool has no clue! Only idiot RINOs would cave in to the leftist community organizer.

Yeah, I burst into laughter too when I heard that McConnell had potentially damaging information on Petreaus, and therefore on Obozo, that he withheld until after the election!!!! Freaking cowardly moron!

One thing that everybody needs to understand. It doesn't matter which party they belong to, they WILL protect their own.

Obama: We want to raise taxes on the top 25% by 20%.
GOP leaders: What? That's crazy! We won't possibly agree to that.
Obama: Okay, then how about raising taxes on the top 25% by 30%.
GOP leaders: That's even more ridiculous.
Obama: Alright. Here's my final offer. We will raise taxes on the top 25% by 50%.
GOP leaders: Absolutely not. There's no point in continuing these negotiations.

Jay Carney to media: The president offered the opposition party a series of fair and flexible proposals but their side remains entirely unwilling to make any concessions to save the Middle Class from the fiscal cliff...
(pointing to reporter): Yes, Andrea.
Andrea Mitchell: Why do you think these mean-spirited Republicans hate minorities and the poor so much?

Dems demand tax hikes and promise cuts in spending in the future

Remember your Democrat math...

An increase in spending of only 5% instead of 10% is a 50% budget cut.

Simple, that....

As Reagan later wrote, "The Democrats reneged on their pledge and we never got those cuts."

I like Ronald Reagan, but I wonder why he stayed so congenial with the RAT bastard demoRATs, instead of forging ahead via executive orders on spending cuts as well as border enforcement in exchange for the amnesty that Reagan signed. Never should've happened! And Reagan should have been astute to know that Rat bastard demoRATs never keep their word! He should have exercised the executive order pen, the way that 0dumb0 is doing right now!

“Christmas is coming. Adjourn and go home, the results won’t be any worse.”

Yeah, the election is over. Much worse to come before we’re out of this mess. Anything that’s a big deal now will be forgotten by 2014. Might as well stand our ground while we can.

Perhaps they would if they had to pay for their medical care. Can’t force um to be healthy. But you can make it rather costly for them if they are 500 lbs because they can’t put the twinkies away.

er...

Doughnuts away.

Let insurance companies price insurance on weight and other risk factors and people will get back in to shape.

We will turn in to the humans in the movie Wall-e at this rate.

"The key to this mess is making every detail public. This crowd avoids daylight and more we can shine on their corrupt, shameful plans, the better."

Sounds like a plan except the MSM is the "Heavy Dark Curtains" blocking your "let the sun shine in" scenario.
