McConnell 'Burst Into Laughter' as Geithner Outlined Obama's Plan
The Weekly Standard ^ | November 29,2012 | FRED BARNES

Mitch McConnell, the Senate Republican leader, says he “burst into laughter” Thursday when Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner outlined the administration proposal for averting the fiscal cliff. He wasn’t trying to embarrass Geithner, McConnell says, only responding candidly to his one-sided plan, explicit on tax increases, vague on spending cuts.

Geithner’s visit to his office left McConnell discouraged about reaching a “balanced” deal on tax hikes and spending reductions designed to prevent a shock to the economy in January. “Nothing good is happening” in the negotiations, McConnell says, because of Obama’s insistence on tax rate hikes for the wealthy but unwillingness to embrace serious spending cuts

Geithner suggested $1.6 trillion in tax increases, McConnell says, but showed “minimal or no interest” in spending cuts. When congressional leaders went to the White House three days after the election, Obama talked of possible curbs on the explosive growth of food stamps and Social Security disability payments. But since Geithner didn’t mention them, those reductions appear to be off the table now, McConnell says.

If it’s so bad, then no federal income tax refunds this year. The money’s already been taken. No one will miss it.

yeah sure I believe anything the GOP has to say. That is why he burst into laughter, the thought anyone actually believes he or any of them have the balls to fight.

That is the perfect response to darn near every liberal idea.

It’s honest.

It’s direct.

It’s to-the-point.

All things liberals hate.

Yes...I have noticed exactly what u said. I know someone who is an able-bodied male on disability due to bipolar. He has friends over who r also on disability for various ailments but they could all work if they had to. It is disgusting but they all line up to vote for obummer. I now view them as the enemy.

I'm with you man.

The only way is to MAKE IT HAPPEN NOW. Pubbies need to just unanimously say “Present” on every vote and let the chips fall where they may. My ol Grand Dad always said "there is more than one way to skin a cat".

Hannity said today, that even if the government taxed the top 2% of income earners at 100%, it would only cover 8 DAYS of federal spending.

That’s the sort of thing that congressional Republicans need to be shouting from the rooftops. They need to take these Commies’ arguments apart so that Joe Average totally gets it.

I took a look around my local watering hole a while back and counted the ones I know for a fact are on SSDI.

out of 12 drinkers (and smokers)...there were 7 that we are paying for.

A couple of them I also know for a fact work pretty full time for cash.

Another 1 for sue, (maybe 2) that sells his 120 taxpayer provided Vicodin a month for $5/per to supplement his income.

All but a couple have never held a job where they paid taxes or recieved a w-2

There is a huge shadow economy that is bigger than anyone realizes

what sucks, is that the locals don’t want them in the county jail because of their high medical costs for ailments that don’t seem to bother them all that much .

Walk away. Go over the cliff. Let’s Do It. We survived 2008 and the meltdown. We will survive going over the cliff. It won’t be fun. I will hate to lose a ton of money. But I’m willing. Come on GOP. Let’s Roll.

Duly elected to respresent the people of the United States in the House of Representatives.

The House of Representatives hold the purse strings.

No bill can become a law without approval by the House of Representatives.

Leverage enough, plain and simple.

This is not a oligarchy, the people voted, and it is what it is.

Shut it all down if necessary. No continuing resolutions, nothing until that happens. The oligarchy will not respect the will of the people represented by those that were elected to the most representative aspect of our government - the House of Representatives. Innocent people will suffer, but it is better to suffer a little now than unimaginably later.

If the House wilts, they are nothing more than a squeeky rubber stamp. Our form of government wasn't meant to be quick and nimble, it was meant to be representative and fair. Elections have consequences and whoever wins the presidency is no more special than any other branch of the government. Time for our House leadership to step up.

People need to start taking responsibility for their health. So much obesity and diabetes, and all they need to do is cut way back on their carbohydrate consumption and eat a lot more vegetables, seeds and nuts. Also eat modest amounts of fresh fruit and meat.

Yes. Get off their butts and exercise and quit eating so much. That would solve 50% or more of our health costs.
