Former Mexican Mayor Maria Santos Gorrostieta Executed (My Title)
TheDailyMail ^ | November 26, 2012 | Sam Webb

The body of a woman once called a 'heroine of the 21st century' for fearlessly standing up to Mexico's brutal drug cartels has been found beaten to death at the side of a road.

Maria Santos Gorrostieta, 36, was the former mayor of Tiquicheo, a rural district in Michoacan, west of Mexico City.

She famously survived two assassination attempts by narcotics gangs who have turned the country into a war zone.

Her brave defiance may have cost the mother-of-three her life. The official cause of death was a blow to the head but she had been stabbed, her legs and hands had been bound and her waist and chest were covered in burns, suggesting she had been tortured.

She was discovered by residents of the community of San Juan Tararameo, Cuitzeo Township, who were heading to work in the fields.

Her family had reported her missing on November 14, and the disappearance was being investigated by the Anti-Kidnapping and Extortion institution.

A murder investigation has now been launched.

The first assassination attempt was while in October 2009 when the car she was travelling in with her husband Jose Sanchez came under fire from gunmen in the town of El Limone.

The attack claimed his life but Gorrostieta, who had been elected in 2008, lived and bravely battled back in the face of overwhelming tragedy.

The next attempt on her life was just three months later, when an masked group carrying assault rifles ambushed her on the road between Michoacan and Guerreo state.

It’s tragic that people who do the right thing always seem to wind up with the short end of the stick.

Wow — her injuries from those previous attacks were horrifying and yet the people of Mexico still did not elect her to their Congress. Being a member may have provided her with a little more protection.

Shame on those cowards. Maybe the people down there deserve their fate.

The only way to effectively combat this is with a full scale military operation. This woman showed more courage than most of our elected politicians put together. Think of her, and then think of a US General exchanging 20-30,000 emails with Jill Kelley.

If you live down here in South Texas those values have been here since “the great society” was formed by Johnson.

From that point it has been downhill ever since.

We don’t live in Texas, we live in Texico.

A couple of our families are planning an all inclusive trip in 7 months. Mexico has many but they will NEVER see a dime of our money. I said no way to Mexico....many other safer spots to visit.

A brave woman. I wish her government (and ours) showed as much courage in standing up to these criminal gangs.

Import 50 million Mexicans into the US and you will have 50 million Mexicans - not 50 million new Americans. The creation of a Mexican province within the US has prevented assimilation as the Dems and Republicans try to outdo each other in appeasing the newcomers. In Southern California and the other border states, you do not have to learn English for purposes of education, medical care and increasingly for work. America cannot survive with a nation within a nation.

There are over 33 million Americans of Mexican descent in the US. This does not include the 10 to 20 million illegals. There are likely many more Americans with some element of Mexican heritage who do not identify themselves as such on the census. I think the demography war is already lost.

And whenever these drug cartel vermin need more weapons, all they have to do is whistle up their b*ttboy Eric Holder - he’ll send them whatever they want.

Brave woman. not so much Mexican values as lawlessness. When socialism wrecks the USA, we’ll have the same here.
