Opposition Labour leader Ed Miliband vowed on Monday (19 November) he would not let Britain sleepwalk towards exit from the European Union as Prime Minister David Cameron prepared for tough talks in Brussels this week on a renewal of the bloc’s budget.

Speaking to a conference of business leaders, the pro-EU Miliband said leaving Europe would be bad for prosperity and a betrayal of Britain’s national interests.

“Increasingly we see euroskepticism on the rise among the British public—we see cabinet ministers in this government openly calling for Britain to leave,” Miliband said. “For those of us like me, who care passionately about our place in European Union, we cannot remain silent. I will not let Britain sleepwalk towards exit from the European Union.” …

Funny that Miliband “care(s) passionately” about the UK’s laws being tossed aside and the UK itself being subjugated by the EU, isn’t it? Every socialistic trick in the book he employs, “bad for prosperity” among other emotional arguments. It’s not a sleepwalk, Ed: it’s a stampede, and you won’t have the strength to hold it back, I think.

Labour always regards unsubjugating the UK from the EU as a “bad thing” . . . they’re on the EU’s payroll and don’t want to be kicked off the gravy train involuntarily.

Be Britain again and tell the EU to pound sand and bugger off.

There inherent problem with the EU is that it was founded by middle European leftists, based on the French Civil Code. The Code Civil is descended from the Napoleonic Code, which itself was a modernization of Roman Law.

However, at about the same time, the northern European nations had developed under a different system, the Viking code, and the Germanic tribes had a rather advanced legal code themselves, and both of these traditions migrated West to Britain and established themselves first as Norman law then as Common Law.

If you look at middle Europe today, the entire culture is permeated with Roman law concepts, which are very alien to the English, as well as Americans who inherited the English Common Law, likewise totally integrated into our respective cultures.

In practice, a good analogy is difficulty in integrating the metric system and English measures. Brussels cranks out volumes of law based on the middle European legal culture, and when it arrives in England, it is as alien as if it were Klingon.

And yet they expect and demand that the English totally change their culture to fit middle European norms. You might as well take an English measurement automobile completely apart, then try to reassemble it with metric tools.

The EU was originally set up to counter the USA, after we had already wasted billions on their defense, and reconstruction during and after wars they initiated, and we were dragged into.

I really don’t care what happens to them anymore.
Watching them fail only reminds me that they partially succeeded in their goals, by dragging USA down with them.

Having watched a number of youtube videos featuring speeches made by Nigel Farage on the floor of the European Parliament 1) makes me wish that he was a “natural born” US citizen and 2) makes it clear just how foolish...and dangerous...the European Union is.
