NEW YORK, November 16, 2012, (LifeSiteNews.com) - A newly released United Nations Population Fund report calls on governments to counteract religious objections to emergency contraception, which the report says stand in the way of fundamental human freedoms.
The UNFPA’s 2012 annual report, which declared birth control a human right, was released this week.
It states that UN general comments are the authoritative interpretation of the standards that help translate the right to family planning at the abstract…level into policies and programs.
The committee on Economic Social and Cultural Rights in its General Comment Number 14 ruled that one of the normative elements is acceptability.
According to the report, ‘duty-bearers’ (governments and others) have a responsibility to assure that all forms of contraception including sterilization and abortion-inducing ‘emergency contraception’ are viewed as acceptable.
Information and services may exist, the report states. But if they are not acceptable for cultural, religious or other reasons, they will not be used. (Emphasis added.)
In a case study in Mexico, the global body found that married Catholic women…said that modern contraceptives, such as the pill or intrauterine devices, were against their religious beliefs and were therefore unacceptable to them.
The report makes clear it includes emergency contraception, such as Plan B and Ella, as among basic human rights.
Although the report claims emergency contraception does not cause abortion, two sentences earlier the report states: A single emergency contraceptive pill, when taken within up to five days after unprotected intercourse, prevents a fertilized egg from implanting.
The IUD also acts as an abortifacient.
Without such services, Mexico’s faithful Catholic women had to wait until after their reproductive years to have the ‘possibility of enjoying sexual intimacy free from the worry of an unintended or unwanted pregnancy,’ the report stated.
The world body declares it will support those who combat views that make contraception, including aboriton-including drugs, unacceptable. UNFPA commits in particular to…supporting both men and women to transform gender attitudes and cultural barriers that impede access to and use of family planning, it states.
Many believe the declaration of such birth control measures is intended to pave the way for a global approval of abortion-on-demand.
What is to stop the UNFPA from declaring that abortion is a ‘basic human right’? Brian Clowes of Human Life International asked in a statement e-mailed to LifeSiteNews.com.
The UNFPA report states, The right to family planning is also a gateway to the achievement of other rights.
Can there be any doubt that efforts to reform the UN are a waste of time? You can’t reform a rattlesnake. The US should leave the UN and the UN should leave the US.
And who in the UN cares about human rights anyway?
Why does anyone still take the UN seriously?
Once Communism was proclaimed 'dead' (by the Communist media), it flourished as never before, here and abroad.
Stupid people let their guard down, and let the media revile Joe McCarthy, who was right as rain, at the same time they were telling us how we'd lost the war in Vietnam.
(This has been going on for a long time, only no one had the internet to counteract Walter Cronkite.)
When they started the 'Trick or Treat for UNICEF", they started co-opting kids (1960s), and the race to 'win hearts and minds' was on. They used the poor, huddled children to further their aims (sound familiar?)
Even then the schools had been infiltrated, in the middle of the Cold War.
Now, of course, it is far worse, the infection has spread, and the patient is critical.
But if you tried to tell anyone then, you were shunned as a paranoid nutcase, and treated like a Conservative is by the GOP today.
We need to realize, and get others to, that an organization run by tinpot dictators and totalitarians does not have our best interests in mind, that we should in no way 'cooperate' with their agendae, that we should not alter America to conform to their standards, and we should not fund their activites. No way in Hell should we ask their 'permission' to defend ourselves.
Until we get our collective heads out of that orifice, we will continue to rush headlong down the path to destruction.
Sadly, I think far too many are self-absorbed, in denial, afflicted by their own 'normalcy bias', or otherwise actively involved (for short-term personal gain) to prevent that, although I pray I am wrong.
Only a heartless landlord would run "refugee camps" that have celebrated their Golden Jubilee.
For 64 years now, the UN has done everything it could to keep the Palestinians in "victim" status. Any compassionate organization would've found the homeless a new home long ago.
Cesspits like those camps provide a marvelous breeding environment for Communists, with or without the religious overtones of Islam.
It always amazes me how the left defines human rights..
This stands logic on its head. Supporting the rights of a child is a violation of human rights! Who but the most jaded leftist knew this?

Sex is a important god to them. They bow down and worship it about the true and living God. They sacrifice their children to it. God will soon have to cleanse the earth of them, in order to restore what is right. It is beyond obvious that the end of this age is coming very soon.
