Personal anecdote: We were making a small kiddush (banquet-let) at our synagogue in honor of my father-in-law’s yahrtzeit (anniversary of his death). We bought some cakes. We made some salads. Due to the missiles reaching Central Israel, a young couple moved their wedding from a large hall in Kiryat Malachi to a private home, and returned a large amount of goodies to the caterers. The caterers are the Tabachnik family, that makes the kosher frozen soups available in the US. The family matriarch lives near us in Kiryat Arba, and she donated this humungous amount of food to us for our kiddush, which was unfortunately underattended, as such things tend to be. So now we are stuck with a ton of mock chopped liver, eggplant, cake, salads made with strange vegetables I don’t know the names of, potato and macky salads, and soda. My mother-in-law, widow to the aforementioned, is living with us, and has just let me know that she has been up with heartburn all night because she can’t stomach this kind of food. So now it’s up to the three of us, wife, ten-year-old son and self, to finish this mountain. I’m trying to lose weight. At least we won’t have to shop for a while.

So let your friends and neighbors know you have a bunch of excess food. If they want some, they should bring their own containers. My neighbor does marketing for some food companies, so he's frequently giving us his excess samples.
