The union consists of about 5,000 members. nearly 19,000 are out of work. I suspect another few thousand will be out of work as well.

If you’ve ever lived in a town with one or two large factories that close, you’ve seen the job loss spread to restaurants, gas stations, hardware stores, etc.

From what I understand, Hostess was negotiating with the Teamsters union and the Bakers union. Teamsters agreed on the contract but the Bakers held out, causing everyone to lose their jobs. I was once a union worker many years ago, Communication Workers of America, and the union was geared towards keeping the dumbest, laziest employees in their jobs, the smart hard workers didn’t need any help.

10-4. My home town used to have several textile mills, several cast iron pipe shops, and thread making mills. All are basically gone now except for one or two small pipe type shops. They were all bought up and moved off. Many of the shut up old rag tag buildings are still standing. Some just fell down and others burned down.

Yeah, I totally get that. I was attempting to be sarcastic over the obscene way that the ABC Democrats Tonight portrayed this. It’s so freakin’ funny when it’s Obama, but if this were Bush it would be a national tragic event.

They are so utterly corrupt.

Exactly. The ripple effect from this will be huge.

So true. Especially smaller towns, where many businesses exist solely on
the customer base generated by employers...

No compassion for these people losing their jobs, but all kinds of outrage
when someones freebies are potentially on the line.
