Twinkie Party: The Loss of 18,000 Hostess Jobs Is All a Big Joke to ABC News
NewsBusters ^

The cast of Good Morning America on Friday treated the bankruptcy of Hostess and the loss of 18,500 jobs as a hilarious joke. Josh Elliott, George Stephanopoulos and others guffawed as they handed out Twinkies and ate them on set.

If I had it my way, these elitists would be kicked out of their rent-controlled suites and be forced to live like commoners. So out of touch !

Marie Antoinette used to dress up like a shepherdess and said “Let them eat cake.”

Georgie S. and the rest of the ABC gang dress up like journalists and say “let them eat Twinkies.”

It was all in good fun. Until it wasn’t.

That was the goal of the ‘pink slime’ meme, but it failed.

From what I understand, Hostess was negotiating with the Teamsters union and the Bakers union. Teamsters agreed on the contract but the Bakers held out, causing everyone to lose their jobs. I was once a union worker many years ago, Communication Workers of America, and the union was geared towards keeping the dumbest, laziest employees in their jobs, the smart hard workers didn’t need any help.

10-4. My home town used to have several textile mills, several cast iron pipe shops, and thread making mills. All are basically gone now except for one or two small pipe type shops. They were all bought up and moved off. Many of the shut up old rag tag buildings are still standing. Some just fell down and others burned down.

I do so hope that when the war finally breaks out people will realize that the media, for the most part, is a viable target and enemy of this constitutional republic as founded.
General Sherman himself considered them spies and said even if he hung them all they would churn a story out from hell by breakfast time.
Some things never change.

I know a dozen or so Hostess delivery guys, some for 20 years. (I deliver beverages) It’s sad to see people you known for many years become unemployed. In this case it wasn’t Obama but the union pension funding that sunk the company, along with the chain stores operating their own bakeries and stiff competition from non union bakeries (Little Debbie, Bimbo etc..) The local radio stations also made much fun about the twinkie loss etc...not much sympathy of the 100 or so local people now out of work.

It would be precious to learn that Good Morning America, through a confusing list of mergers and purchases, is a subsidiary of Hostess Inc.

I was AFL-CIO myself but was lucky enough to be in a local that had enough brains to recognize that putting ourselves out of work wasn’t a good idea. We even had a no strike clause that the national AFL-CIO didn’t care for but the UAW wanted us so we really had the nationals over a barrel.

Aside from that we were definitely a union with a lot of idiotic union attitudes about work. I hated it.

Yeah, I totally get that. I was attempting to be sarcastic over the obscene way that the ABC Democrats Tonight portrayed this. It’s so freakin’ funny when it’s Obama, but if this were Bush it would be a national tragic event.

They are so utterly corrupt.

They wouldn't be laughing if the Skittles plant shut down.

Besides those union workers, other workers (engineering, office) lost their jobs too. This is a horrific day for those who loved their jobs at Wonder Bread and for those of us who bought their products.

I suppose it is a day of victory for the union workers who got what they wanted. Nevertheless, it's a day when a whole bunch of union workers lost their ability to continue paying union dues.

If you’ve ever lived in a town with one or two large factories that close, you’ve seen the job loss spread to restaurants, gas stations, hardware stores, etc.

Exactly. The ripple effect from this will be huge.
